Finally getting a Thompson Contender!

I've been wanting a Contender in 7-30waters for around 40 years and I finally decided to splurge and build one. I won an auction yesterday for a frame and as soon as I get it in my hands, I'll be ordering a 14"MGM barrel and the furniture will be coming from Tony's. I'd love to put a Leupold 2.5x8 on it but I haven't seen one available in a couple of years and yet it's not discontinued.

Have fun with the project.
Yeah you waited long enough.
How hard is the 7-30 waters to find ?

Federal makes a 120gr factory load but I'll be rolling my own.

The older TC frame, not the encore.

I love the Contender and MGM makes good barrels.

Good. The encore is an embarrassment to TC.
I STILL kick myself for selling mine.

This is actually the most excited I've been about a gun in quite a while. A while back a member here, I can't recall who

posted pictures of contenders and that rekindled the urge. I've been working my butt off this summer and decided to treat myself.

Nicely done! I admit that SPP's are one of those things I don't really "get", but I always appreciated both the bluing and the tolerances, fit, and triggers on those things.

Nice! Had a Super 16 armor alloy version in .223 Rem many years ago. Sold it for who knows what and have regretted it ever since. I think I was to young to appreciate it at the time.

That's cool - I've kicked around the idea myself.

Take it for what it’s worth, grain of salt, etc etc.

The frame came in today and I now have a 14" MGM barrel on the way in 7-30waters with a 1-9 twist.

All wood grip, wood with the rubber dingus on back, or ugly ass Pukemayer rubbers?

Wood looks the best. But it hurts when shooting my .445 Super Mag. Like a hammer to the palm!

I liked the wood/rubber combos from the mid 1990s versions.
The Pachmayers, like ALL Pachmayers are ugly and hard as _______________ (deleted for decorum on the forum)

I'm going with Tony's laminated grips and forend. They look good and they're contoured like the Boyds stock on my Charger, which is comfortable. I plan on sticking with 120gr to 140gr bullets hence the 1-9 twist. The 7-30 doesn't start to buck until you get into heavier bullets.
