Life changes......

Post by Orchidman »

Lost one of my 2 best mates last week. Some of you may remember some tales of hunting from the G&A forum involving my hunting buddy GB. He was diagnosed with Parkinsons about 10 yrs ago. We continued to hunt together for a few years on the understanding that he would make the call when he finally found it too difficult, which he did about 6 yrs ago. His condition deteriorated rapidly after that until I got a call from his wife last saturday that he only had a few days left according to the Dr's.
Tried to get to see him but it wasnt to be and he passed the following day. Funeral was last tuesday.

Rest in peace my friend. We shared a whole bunch of some great and not so great adventures together but we always laughed and had an awesome time. I will always cherish those memories.

Since I 'retired' from working on the charter boat in Feb last year I have only done a couple of charters relieving my replacement.....Didnt think my replacement would last......and got a call from Mark ( Owner and skipper) that he has handed in his notice, after 18 mths. My replacement (who is 26 yrs younger than me) couldnt handle the long hours and hard work...So, I am back on the boat full time in 10days....which means I lose my weekends and social life.

Taking the opportunity to head down to cull goats and hunt deer for the next 7 days to have a break and clear my head.....before the hard work starts...Should have a hunt report or two to post up when BH and I get back.

The frequency of the funerals creeps up on you fast with age, sorry for your loss hey, hope the fishing is fantastic and takes your mind off grieving, good luck hunting, can't wait to see the pictures, only 57 more sleeps until deer season for me, 35 sleeps for my youngest

Condolences on the loss of your friend. It sure does seem we're finding more and more time of late saying goodbye to parents, family and friends. Of course, considering the ages involved I guess it's inevitable...still, can't help but to reflect on Sir Davos Seaworths observation that "Nothing screws you harder than time"...

Always awful when we get reminded that our permanent fixtures, aren't.

Sorry Alec. Enjoy the rifle time.
WWJMBD?

I believe we should stand on Ceremony. . . while our friends handcuff the sanctimonious little prick and take him away.

Breaks my heart to hear things like this. It’s tough to lose real friends since God only graces you with a handful as it is. God speed to his reward for your buddy…

Remember the good, don't dwell on the bad. The melancholy hole you feel will be replaced by fond memories... if you give it time.

Where he's at now it's pain free, illness free and worry free, so that's something to feel good about.

“I thank my God every time I remember you.”
Philippians 1:3 🙏

Have an excellent hunt and bring back photos 📷

More sad news from down here. Mark's (charter boat owner) wife passed away on sat morning. She had a quad bypass last year and coupled with her longstanding rheumatoid arthritis she has slowly gone downhill since. Was taken to hospital on mon night suffering from pneumonia...Drs discovered a blood clot on her lung and found her kidneys were shutting down. Went into a coma fri night and died sat morning. Due to Marks disabilities he spent fri at home so I went and spent the day with him. Went back up sat morning to inform him of her passing and spent the day with him. Prayers for both of them would be appreciated.

BTW, trip to cull goats and deer was relatively unremarkable. Professional cullers had operated on both adjoining properties and clearly had not restricted their activities to their own respective patches. We covered the whole property in 2 days of scouting and didnt see a single goat and only a couple of deer. Over 6 days we managed to shoot 3 wild cats, 8 possums and 1 goat.....but it was a good break to put things behind me and a bonus was that BH's mid 20's son joined us for some father/son bonding. Despite the lack of success we all had an awesome time. Gave 'Junior' most of the shots.....

Have a good friend in California that lost his wife last week, she had not been sick. Still don't know what happened.
Wife had talked to her a couple weeks ago and she said she wanted to come visit us.
