I hadn't heard anything about this.

I hadn’t seen anything about that either. In past conversations I’ve had with him in other forums, he came across as an arrogant “my way only” type, so I’m a bit surprised he pled out.

I’ve heard about it, but didn’t dig in because it doesn’t affect me. And regardless of how dumb a law may be in one’s mind, it IS the law, and if one breaks it….well….duh.
One thing that stands out about the whole situation….most every article writer thinks that if you’re a veteran your poop somehow doesn’t stink, and you should be given special treatment in criminal prosecutions.
“But he was a veteran!”

I never have liked the guy. He seemed a used car dealer from the first video I watched.
I think I’ve voiced that opinion in the past.

You have voiced that opinion and a few of us agreed with you. Lots of us are Veterans, it does not give us a free pass to break the law, even if it is a stupid one.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I was never a big Vickers fan. Former Delta or no, he always seems to just "endorse" whatever product throws money his way so he can slap his logo on it and make a few bucks. I remember for a long time he screamed about how 1911's are unreliable, then all of a sudden there's a few Vickers branded 1911's and it's "oh well THESE 1911's are good." Ya okay bud.

Military service, even distinctive military service, doesn't necessarily exclude someone from ending up being a turd.

Here's a bit more objectively written piece on the ordeal:
