The details
It's a correctly numbered trap gun
It being originally full choke it wouldn't have had the vintage poly choke from the factory

Things I really like are the wood.
Japhy it was fine under the tape.
He even had a winchester pad.

The straight English stock I like wasn't sure I would Bigslug had me worried.

That big duck bill ventilated rib I like too

It's a beautiful gun. And polychokes actually work incredibly well, hence the craze about them a bunch of years back but most people don't care for the aesthetics of them.

First one for me.
I've heard/read that they do work and had quite a run until screw In chokes became the way to go.

My first shotgun was a Rem 1100 with a trap barrel, full, I shot the crap out of that thing on a trap field until I moved to where I am now and the only close shooting sport was sporting clays at the time, I did ok but the full barrel had to go, got a new barrel with interchangeable chokes and now the trap barrel sits, need troll #4 to try it out.

I'm just reflecting a little bit on the fact that we dropped this thread at G&A and picked up here like nothing had changed. We're home kids!

That's a nicely installed polychoke, and I've come to regard them in the same light I do the decently done military sporters of the same era - these were working tools of the time, not Holy Relics, and they reflected the thinking of the people of that time - who most of us regard as bigger men than we are. Somebody put some THOUGHT into that thing, which you may or may not be able to say about the pristine and rack-standard. Me likey!

Removing the tape residue today.

I was able to read the inscription on it.
I thought it was really neat.
Figured some of us would appreciate it.

Definitely not constant it hits in waves sometimes though.....I've been riding it hard this year.

I had put the new/old winchester recoil pad on.....not finished.....just rough.

It does hit where it's aimed.
It is not pleasant for me to shoot however.
Quite unpleasant for me actually it whacks my cheek pretty hard.
I can't see myself shooting a round of anything with it comfortably.

well that's a bummer. You would think with a trap rib you might not need to get down on the stock quite as tight.
I have a Weatherby pump that I love but shooting a round of trap with it is painful for the same reason. The short rib puts my cheek in solid contact with the stock.

I was a bit concerned after seeing the G&A photo with a band of what appeared to be black electrical tape on the stock. Relieved to see no surprises!
How does that adjustable choke work on an already full choked barrel? That model 12 in that vintage a full choke barrel would be 30in.
It’s a nice find. Is that wood original? Special issue?

It was electrical tape and I was relieved also.

The tape and the deteriorating old pad were on there a long,long time. So long the tape basically the plastic pealed off and the hardened goop remained.

I timidly at first used mineral spirits to remove it all.

The poly choke does just what it is supposed to on it changes the amount of restriction.
If it didn't slap me after firing I was thinking it would
Do quite well.

The stock aspect is just guesses and supposition.
Model 12 Traps were 4 times more expensive than a regular field gun.
They did come with very high grade wood.

This piece fits that nature of them.
To me I think it was shortened a bit.
I'm going by the wood to metal fit at the receiver.

I will try it again with light loads and have someone else try it too.

You may be able to as I think the English style stock is the cause.
I'm certainly not up to replacing it either.
