I've been hunting a reclaimed strip mine. There are deep ravines, woods on steep hills and very large fields of rag weed and brush. I haven't seen a deer on my trail cam for over two weeks. I'm not sure where they've gone, but the weather here in SW Pa has been very mild. My friend has been sitting in the Castle in the evenings and all day today without seeing a deer. I'm going to try something tomorrow that I haven't done in years, I'll hunt with my 94 Winchester! I will be working the brush fields and conduct a one-man drive to try to get some deer moving. If I don't locate deer there, I may head for the woods. I thought of carrying my S&W Mountain gun or Ruger 357 but have decided to go as light as possible as I'll be walking all day. It will sure be nice to carry the 94 again. The last time I carried it was at least 12 years ago, I was standing against a small pine sapling and a twig was between the hammer and firing pin when I pulled the trigger to get a buck.
The 94 Win was my first rifle, and I worked all summer to buy it when I was 14. Even though my old eyes won't work well with it, I sure hope I have a chance to make her bark again. My Savage 99 with a scope will stay behind this time as I expect quick short shots.
Is there a firearm in your cabinet you have been ignoring?

I have an old inherited Win 94 in 38-55 that needs to be taken out and kick some palmettos looking for hogs

There's far too many. I've been shooting pretty frequently as we have a range but it's been mostly handguns and .22 rifles. Even though I have quite a few lever guns, my first was a 336 that I bought used in 77 from a guy I was in the service with and that rifle has probably accounted for more game than all of my other hunting rifles combined. I prefer straight grips and always wanted a 336 Texan and Numrich finally got a straight lever in so with that and a Boyds stock, I slimmed the forearm and reshaped the bottom of the receiver and refinished the whole gun. I've been dying to beat the woods with it again and it may happen soon. My Medicare supplement kicks in January 1 and I can get my eyeballs fixed. There's several other lever guns that will also get the dust knocked off of them but the 336 goes first.

I suppose that I have. An old German Drilling. Two barrels 16 bore with the under rifle barrel in .22 rimfire. It had once been in 7x57R but re-tubed to .22 back in 1954. I bought it some years ago from the person who had it converted. It is equipped with a detachable telescopic sight. I had it on the range last week trying to adjust it. The scope only has a turret for elevation and the windage has to be applied by moving the rear mount with a key. I had not used it for some years but thought I ought to bring it out as a useful squirrel gun. I managed to sight it for some Remington sub-sonic ammunition that I have that my bolt action Sako does not group with. It is fine in the Drilling. Keen to get it out and about over the next few weeks now the leaf is off.
