30 caliber airgun.

I finally heeded the advice of some members here. In my insomniac state I thought up another airgun, this time a magazine fed bolt action that will utilize a remington 700 stock (because I have a bunch.)
I'll be using the valve thats giving me so much power in my 50 caliber so this thing should really scoot. It's also a design that's easier to manufacture and therefore more affordable. I have a bunch of green mountain 308 blanks in 41t0 so I'll be turning those down for use.
Here's some 65 grain 308 airgun slugs for reference. I'm hoping for 1800fps and the mags hold 8 rounds. A fill should be able to give at least 8 regulated shots.

As I remember a Remington 700 3006, the standard Midwest farm rifle, holds 4 rds in the internal box magazine
An 8 shot 30 cal wrapped in a Remington 700 package is just beyond cool!
It’s always too easy for observers to add requirements but it would also be great to have a matching bullet mold.

Well, the magazines are kind of strange and of the rotary type but they're not bulky and they work fantastic.

Nothing wrong with that. Ironically I had a guy bring me a Benjamin Franklin 310 bb gun last week to see if I could rebuild it for him. He said it was his dad's when he was a kid. Just got the parts in today for it.

Air rifles have come a long way since the airguns of my youth. I don't know when they got serious, but I enjoy reading about them.

If you want some interesting air gun reviews go to Youtube and search AAR on Air. Mainly from a U.K. perspective but excellent and informative reviews.

Dude, you are one hell of a machinist
That project is looking good
In a couple weeks we probably see that thing make bug holes at 200.

Thank you! I'm excited to see this one finished. Also extremely excited for it to be mag fed.

Is there a possibility that at that velocity, there would be leading in the bore?

I dont know. I'm only guessing here but I don't think there will be because I haven't had that issue with my 50 caliber airgun. Maybe because there's no hot flame behind it? I also coated my bore with HBN, so that might have something to do with it also.

I was just wondering. 'There's no heat so if your 50 caliber didn't lead, this one won't. I wonder if lubing the bullets might increase the velocity.

Well, I've yet to pin the valve in place which is what keeps it from blowing out the back and into my body, preferably not my skull but the hardened steel transfer port is pretty strong and it sits between the pressure tube, upper reciever and valve so I figured I could take it up to 1500psi for testing. It works and works good! I got 739fps at that fill and it's rated for up to 4500psi so it'll scoot when I'm done. Don't mind my clamp for "testing purposes."

No. I'm going to build my own trigger and sear that will fit in the right place for the stocks that im using. It also gives me the ability to make an adjustable or light(er) trigger.

I also did some testing today. For one, it held pressure overnight with no leaks and I tried it at 1700psi. It will also be tunable.

If someone would have told me 2 years ago that I'd be this enthusiastic about airguns I'd call them a liar. Theres just something appealing about doing something that seems nearly implausible.

If would be sweet to use a R700 trigger.
