Would a drum sander be better than a planer? More expensive but maybe worth it? Planer knives can be a pain to set.

I think a drum sander could work, because after all, I’m gonna have to go back over it again with the orbital sander you know, even after sending it through the planner I think the difference, though is a planner has a better chance of producing and uniformity across-the-board as long as my blades are clean Then, what a drum sander would do. I would be interested to see what a drum sander could do for rounding the edges and the corner on a table as opposed to using a router.

Easier to replace drums than knives. Place I worked ages ago, I came up with a way to keep from scrapping parts by using a jointer to resize. They bought a used one. The knives were screwed up and the in/out tables weren't parallel with each other. Was a real pain to set up.

I was watching a vid on the Youtubes of a guy who does big tables. When he is done gluing them up he takes them to a cabinet shop and pays to get them planed. Even a 24'' planer is big and expensive. We had a 60'' planer in school. It was as big (and heavy) as a Buick.
