When my wife and I got married eleven years ago, I new she had a couple of handguns. When we moved in together it was crazy getting her stuff moved in. I opened the safe and told her to put her handguns on the top shelf. Well, she put them in the back of the safe, out of sight out of mind! Oy yeah, to make this better my wife got me a Tactical Range backpack for Christmas. This thing is sweeeeet!
Oy yeah, back to my story. I'm working on firearms inventory for my wife and family for when I leave this earth. I reach in the top back of the safe and pull out two handguns. A Sig P238 .380 cal & a 1971 Smith & Wesson 39.2 9mm. Again "Sweeet"! Called my buddy Doug and asked him if he wanted to go shooting, like I had to ask.
Well my day at the range didn't go very well. Having never shot this gun I wasn't sure what to expect. Every other shot in S&W jammed and didn't didn't eject. The round was still in chamber. Called my gunsmith. He said it's probably the ejector and/or ejector spring. He also said if it's the original magazine, it will probably need some work. I'll send it to him on Monday. I didn't have any .380 ammo so that one will have to wait until next trip. Still not a bad day or a bad find, I shot my other pistols.

Fun finding lost treasures! My brother had a 39 back in the day, it was a very nice pistol as I recall.

I can almost guarantee that the extractor is just gummed up from storage with dried up grease, oil and dust. I’d give it a few squirts of CLP and work it for a bit or even better a big blast or three of spray cleaner to blast the gunk and dry lubricant off the extractor and spring.

I think everyone is missing the main take away here. Apparently if you can put a gun in your safe and leave it there, you can later discover it and add it like it is new...
