Fun range day, but aren’t they all?

Post by Wambli Ska »

I was bored and headed out to my favorite range which is some BLM land about 20 mins from the house. I will never again live in a place where I can’t do this 😁

The little ammo can was full and I set up a few spinners and brought a bunch of cans with me.

So this is a chance to do 500 perfect trigger presses and 50 magazine reloads in one afternoon. No timer, we aim for smooth and perfect. Speed is just a byproduct of smooth and perfect.

The basic drill is a few cans on the berm at somewhere between 10 yards and “out there”. Every trigger press must make a can jump and every once in a while accurately make a spinner spin. Take one or two shots and move. Repeat as needed.

Happiness is a really dirty Glock 44 👍👍👍

As an added bonus, my wife yells at me AGAIN when I walk into the house with a pair of dirty boots on. Somehow I have not managed to learn to take them off outside 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, relatively clean. Not much mud and crap where I live now. Mostly just dust 😎

Z beat me to it. My boots are dirtier than that after a couple nights in the field with him several weeks ago.

It sure must be nice to have those opportunities.

Thats my boots about 10 minutes into my work day on a typical job. Working in the rain/snow does keep them clean, but I have to oil them more.

There are some areas that are designated ranges around here. Then there are tons of places where you can just get out of the car and shoot, as long as you can get to them. This one is not very far off the highway and any car can reach it, therefore the mini garbage dump.

Others are miles away into the desert via 4WD and they are pretty pristine so for those I have a big tarp I lay down to collect the brass and I leave them cleaner than I found them👍👍

This particular pair of boots are pretty new. I have some older ones that have a lot more mileage and are nicely broken in.

It really is nice out there. A bit dry, but nice

A little bit of everything. Just 40 minutes away it snowed 16” a few days ago and there are several ski trails open today. Actually going skiing with the wife later this week 👍👍👍

Shooting out in BFE is something I've always had conflicted feelings about, specifically because leaving the place a mess doesn't represent our sport well to outsiders. Good on you for being a good steward of public land!

Thanks! It’s a family thing… when I go hiking with my granddaughter I usually come back with a backpack full of other people’s trash. That freaking kid can smell an empty can 20 feet inside a hole 🤣🤣🤣

This particular place is a mini “dump” anlready and even here I try to collect not just my empties but a relatively large amount of other folks cases and empty hulls. Some for reloading, most to just trash…

Even .22 cases get picked up since we’re playing with the idea of experimenting with making them into .223 bullets.

I do love shooting outside without any range weirdos (except me) being around. And when you own the land and goof off with metal detecting, it kinda forces you to clean up the mess!

Sounds like a great time.

That’s in the cards for the future too but for now public will do and I’m just happy it’s in every direction 20 mins or so away 👍👍

Missus and I made it through in one piece. I’m not as smooth as I once was but it’s coming back quickly. This will probably become a weekly date for the winter. Damn I love the outdoors around here 👍👍
