Big Bend NP

Post by Centermass »

First RV trip was a great success. Spent three days at Big Bend. Did some hikes, soaked in the hot springs, relaxed.

If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it. It’s so far out, that it gets so quiet it makes ears ring. And, the night sky is amazing.

I’ve played there. The whole area is a vast expanse of nothingness.

Never been, but my grandfather owned about half of the park back when he was doing oil prospecting. Need to get out there and see it someday

They have two designated RV parks. One with full hookups, and the other one just a place to park…

Beautiful country. I’ve spent some time down there. The annual “world championship” chili cook off is in Terlingua right down the road, first weekend in November. Make a trip to Lajitas and have a beer with mayor Clay Henry. I don’t know if La Kiva is still open. Was a good place to have a meal and a beer. Underground.

Your second pic… long shutter speed? The streaks being satellites? Those things haul butt…. Just curious.

Cool!

I’m working on setting up the Gladiator for quick overnight stays just about anywhere so I can get away from folks. I bought a neat small tent that fits on the bed and goes up and down in minutes, a foam mattress and a small stove. I figured that and a small cooler is all I need for a night or two out and about. Around here for 3 seasons out of the year even rain is not really a factor and temps are moderate so I can go super light and be really mobile day to day.

There are dirt roads and trail here that will get me far enough from other less motivated humans that I should be able to do a quick veer of them and just spend the night out wherever I land. But a small camper is definitely the way to go if more than a night or two is the intent 👍👍

Someday! But for now I’m starting small and cheap until I find out if my wife is on board for real. My setup is pretty much like the picture below. Most realistically it going to be me and the dog for most of our adventures so that’s plenty of room.

Long shutter speed on an iPhone no less. I stopped with DSLR years ago.
The streaks are shooting stars..

I kinda like it. But i do miss my Tacoma.
The Kinda part comes in with it just doesn’t feel as well built as my Taco was. I really expected more polish for a 55K truck.

The twin turbo V6 is a beast. I’ll do 90/95 on I10 without even realizing it.
It will tow my 3K travel camper at 70mph and stay under 2500 rpm, but MPG drops to 11

Fair, it's on the list for consideration for my next vehicle. Selling my 2014 Tacoma before I went over the pond was, in hindsight, a terrible decision. I'm definitely Tundra curious after borrowing a fullsize for a few weeks and finding it not as cumbersome as I expected, but I'm also really interested in seeing the new Tacoma, and more importantly the new Land Cruiser, in the flesh.

Or I could press the easy button and get a current 4Runner. That 4.0 is pretty indestructible.

I love Toyotas. Always had an excellent experience buying and excellent product reliability but if I can go back in time a year, I would probably really look at a 1500 ram.
