I find it interesting that S&W has decided to enter the over crowded (sarcasm) lever action space, especially with a pretty generic .44 Mag. I assume their hope is to capitalize on the hyped, but slow rolled, reintroduction of Marlin by Ruger with a product you can actually buy. To that end, I'm surprised they don't have a .45-70 offering.

Soft pass for me, if and when they pop up on sale 6 months to a year from now I could be tempted. Until then, I'll keep pinching pennies and waiting to get my example of the Marlin by Ruger 1895 SBL .45-70.

I wonder if they are actually the ones making it ?

I do like the fact is has plastic furniture, MLock, and threaded barrel. When a manufacturer blatantly gores sacred cows, I love it.

A back to the future moment in design. The only thing that might interest some ( not me) would be a chambering in 460 or 500.

I'm mildly curious if you like it because it offends traditionalists or if you would prefer to own that over blued steel and walnut?

I LOVE that it offends traditionalists, and I’d 100% prefer it to walnut and blue.
Think I’d prefer 45-70 though. A subsonic 400-ish grain bullet with a suppressor would be an awesome short range deer gun. But a .300 grain 44 wouldn’t be anything to sneeze at.

At some point sooner rather than later I WILL recreate the .45-70 from "Jurassic World." I love that the Ruger update has a threaded barrel ready to go. A suppressed .45-70 would be an excellent close in hunting gun.

They will probably struggle to sell them for the price they will actually list for. Take a look at the MSRP for the walnut stocked version. I will stick with my Marlin .44 mag.

My Rossis, Marlin, and Winchester do all I need. Ain’t paying the price for the modern-ish new era levers.

Out of all the things they could have copied, they went with a Henry with a Marlin safety

Yep, what he said. If it was a $600 gun, maybe…. But let’s face it S&W hasn’t had a market winner since the 1970s give or take a decade.

The .22-inspired removeable mag tube is a turn-off for me for the simple fact that it's HEAVY when you scale it up to centerfire. Instead of just a pipe, it's a pipe within a pipe.

I'm at the point with the whole flat trigger craze where I'm having to stifle a bitch-slap response every time I hear the term.

I do like that they have a pistol grip stock instead of a straight wrist like Ruger intro'd the 1894 with. It appears the 1894 "Dark" (tacticool) variant will fix this.

I'm still holding out hope that somebody will wise up and put the loading port on the left side.
