Hammer follows the slide. Sounds like the sear, hammer (or both) was not hardened enough.

Re: Tisas Recall
Had a Lt who was on the range one day with his custom 1911 and it went off three times with one trigger pull. The last round going through the roof of the firing station! The silly poop then started loading another magazine! I stopped him and told him he'd have to table that gun until it was fixed.
Re: Tisas Recall
Thanks. Judging by the numbers on my case it looks like I’m good.

Re: Tisas Recall
Could be but I’m thinking wear since it seems it took a while for the problem to show up.PFD45 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 3:08 amOr geometry?Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:29 pm Hammer follows the slide. Sounds like the sear, hammer (or both) was not hardened enough.
Re: Tisas Recall
Had this same problem with a couple of 1911s...one a Charles Daly and the other an early micro 1911...turned out to be sear problems on both of them...Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:29 pm Hammer follows the slide. Sounds like the sear, hammer (or both) was not hardened enough.

Saw it 3 times in one year with trade-in guns at my buddy’s gun store. One was so bad you could push the hammer to fire with your thumbJayhawker wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 12:36 amHad this same problem with a couple of 1911s...one a Charles Daly and the other an early micro 1911...turned out to be sear problems on both of them...Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:29 pm Hammer follows the slide. Short disconnecter?
I wonder if the sear caught the hammer by its "safety" notch?

Re: Tisas Recall
Too many people try to do a polish job on the 1911 sear and they'll either go through the case hardening or make a negative engagement angle on it.

Re: Tisas Recall
Yep…but if the parts are not properly hardened in the first place (my suspicion in this case) just plain wear will do a quick job of it too. Inferior steel that dies not harden properly could be an issue too.Justsomedude wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 3:31 am Too many people try to do a polish job on the 1911 sear and they'll either go through the case hardening or make a negative engagement angle on it.
I don’t think I’d send it back. I’d just replace the hammer and sear with decent quality aftermarket parts and call it good.

Mine isn't in the recall group, thank Goddess. Thanx to Grapeape for posting this!

Re: Tisas Recall
Since they've got it pegged to a specific serial number range, I'd say either or both. You can get a certain amount of mileage out of putting a bit more forward bend in the left leaf of the combination sear/disconnector/grip safety spring, but if the corresponding hooks don't engage, or the parts are made out of Play Dough, she ain't staying cocked. Period. Paragraph. Full auto is only fun when you expect it, and a deep half-cock notch was perhaps Browning's greatest road block against Darwin: even after the Bubbas "match tune" the sear and hammer to failure, they've still got the half-cock notch.PFD45 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 3:08 amOr geometry?Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:29 pm Hammer follows the slide.
