Upgrading the pest destruction tools.....

Post by Orchidman »

Remember this.......viewtopic.php?t=242

Well, I got to thinking....(which is dangerous for me) and figured out that I could use the thermal camera in other ways.

Bought a roof rack for the Suzuki, made a bracket to clamp on to the front rail from bits n pieces in the workshop, adapted the connector off a tripod and ended up with this.............

Got my tablet out and set it up on the dashboard, plugged in the camera and voila...........I can now drive around the farms in the dark without using headlights ( which normally scare the crap out of pests )
Here are a couple of pics taken on my phone of the tablet while sitting in my driveway....Ignore the reflections, the tablet was mirroring me behind the wheel

It looks promising....and means we can cover more ground in the vehicle instead of walking when chasing pests.
Just hope that I dont fall off the side of some of the steeper bits :D

Will give a range report after the weekend.

Neat and will come in handy I imagine.

You do know the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

Hmmmm......Its going to take some getting used to.
Went up to BH's place just on dark to give it a test. He has a tree/shrub lined driveway that curves.
!st thing I noticed is there is no depth perception.... :o
2nd thing was that shrubs scraping down the side of your door makes a hell of a racket... :(
3rd was that sitting it between the steering wheel and the dash doesnt work as the boss on the wheel when turning covers half the screen...
4th was that the airbags dont deploy at 3 km/h if you hit a tree...
However, it picks up wildlife extremely well, its mounted in the perfect place to see out about 4-500m. 8-)
The problems are solvable though...... :D

As do I.
I still remember the three of us together and basically being able to finish each others' sentences
