Remington is closing their NY facilities and moving to Georgia.
The small New York community of about 7500 will lose some 200+ jobs. Remington had been in NY for over 100years.

They can thank the NY politicians that made it such a business unfriendly environment

It sucks for the people that worked there and the surrounding area that will suffer from the loss of those jobs, but this isnt the first company to move and it was bound to happen eventually. Unfriendly states/municipalities will drive businesses away.

My first LE armorer class was at the Ilion NY factory in 2002, and I got a nice tour. . .

The HUGE brick building itself has been there since I think the 1830's. This was before steel I-beams and rebar, so in order to support the weight of all the milling machinery, the upstairs floors were made out of MAPLE 2x10's turned narrow edge up. You could build a small town with all the quality lumber in the place.

The old, huge hand-crank windows were still used periodically to ventilate the place. Looking at the ceiling, you could still see remnants of the old water-driven, leather belt drive mechanisms that used to come down to the various machines.

A lot of the office and classroom area was floored with linoleum and had a serious WWII vibe to it. . .to the point that I half expected George Marshall to walk around the corner in full uniform at any moment.

Most of the machines were WWII and Korean War era Bridgeport, Cincinnati, etc. . ., and had probably been making 870 parts since Day One, but at one extreme there was the Civil War era barrel straightener in the Custom Shop (they hadn't found a better way to do it since), and at the other, the humongous space age granite indicating block.

The adjoining factory museum was FAR more interesting to me than King Tut's tomb would have been. "Wonderful things" indeed.

I hope they make an effort to preserve the place. The effort it would take to demolish would be. . .extreme.

Two blocks away was/is the Eliphalet Remington Elementary School. I'm really dreading what Marxist labor union douchebag they're going to rename it for now.

After what NYC did to Trump, my guess is a lot of new money is going to go elsewhere.

Amazing how they congregate into such small areas, herd mentality I guess. Where I grew up (Rochester) use be bright red, now the inner city is blue

And they are busing more in by the thousands.

If you notice, I didn't blame the fine folks of Ilion, just the NY political machine. I'm well aware that NYC is a main source

They already figured out how to bypass it. They only have to win the votes in the large population centers of the states with the big numbers. What we need to do is break the electoral storage votes for each state so they are by county regardless of population. THEN it would be fair.
