Just wondering.........

Got told of a lever action Winchester in the new 360 Buckhammer that was for sale, along with reloading dies, 100rds of factory ammo and brass, projectiles etc.. Looked it up on the interwebs and saw that it was based on the 30.30 case but was capable of much better performance than the venerable 30.30....Because I dont have a lever action in any caliber I thought I might take the plunge,,,,,
Made arrangements to see the rifle and was disappointed to find it was a standard Winchester 94 in 357/38 special.
My suspicions were aroused when I was searching on the internet and couldnt find any Winchesters chambered in 360....so my search continues for a lever action that will scratch the itch......maybe a 45/70...

Do you folks get Uberti guns down there?

I love my Centennial 1876 in 45-60, my Highwall in 38-55 and my 1873 in 45 Colt. All of them are exceptional rifles, not one single complain.

IMO you may have dodged a bullet. As far as I can tell the .360 Buckhammer is the traditional "day late and a dollar short" approach that Remington frequently has with chamberings. Sorry Big Green, Winchester beat you to the punch again with the .350 Legend.

My lever gun itch will likely be scratched with a 1895 SBL in .45-70, personally.

The .360 BH does have some advantages over .350L. The two biggest being that it doesnt headspace on the case mouth and it uses .358 bullets and not 9mm bullets. The .350L roll out was rushed and had some ammunition issues early on. Im not a big fan of factory ammunition that has a habit of either pierced primers or primers that fall out. I am also not sure how well a .350L would work in a lever gun like the .360 BH is intended to be used in.

The .350 Legend is to straight wall as the 6.5 Creedmoor is to bolt guns.

I recently read an article by F&S that said the 6.5 CM was on of the best moose cartridges. They stated low recoil and the age old, 6.5 Swede being used so much by other countries.

My lever gun knowledge is somewhat limited, but wouldnt the rebated rim on the .350L create some headaches with feeding and extraction in a lever gun? Between that and the more typical bullets for the .350L, I assumed that was why I have not come across a lever gun in .350L yet.

If the 6.5 Swede will reliable take moose in the hands of someone that knows what they are doing, I dont see why the 6.5 CM wouldnt work just as well. I personally would like something with a bit more horsepower behind it.

Building a little on what Zee's saying about the Creedmoor - THAT round was conceived specifically to excel in one form of competition which typically maxes out at 600 yards for 25% of the matches score, and has rapid-fire events at 200 & 300 which account for 50%. It was not cooked up specifically to be a long range round, but the Weenies In Marketing are pushing it any which way they can for the markets outside that narrow competition window. Functionally, it's kind of an "Any Old Midrange Deer Cartridge"

The Buckhammer is also a "gamer" round conceived for a really narrow market within a few of the U.S. states that deliberately restrict deer hunting to cartridges that do not have flat trajectories, and this is typically done by placing limits on case length and body taper. The Buckhammer and Legend rounds are basically trying to find "maximum engine performance with minimal displacement", but those living in states (or New Zealand) without those idiotic restrictions are still going to be better off with their .30-06's and 7 Magnums. If you're looking for a true heavy cover brush gun, there's no real point to trying to maximize trajectory and any of the magnum revolver caliber lever actions will do every bit as well. If you want Legend/Buckhammer performance and you don't have those straight wall cartridge restrictions, the good old .30-30, .35 Remington, and .358 Winchester have been doing the mid-range job quite happily for a LONG time.

If you are looking for a 45-70, I wholeheartedly recommend the Henry. Mine is one hell of a rifle.

Does it have a side gate for loading?

To my understanding the only company currently producing a .360 BH lever gun is Henry. It has my interest, but not enough to take the plunge and purchase one. Between .458x1.8, .350L, and .44 Mag I have my deer needs covered for where I nap in the woods. Even a .357 Mag would probably be okay given my longest possible shot if I thread the needle is about 75 yards. My longest realistic shot is about 40 yards as its rather thick in that spot.

Mine does not. Like most things, they came out with that a year after I bought mine. So… the new ones do
