Today’s bargain find. Out kicking around the shops today with ElkCreek who seems to have a knack for finding out what’s in back! Came home with this gem for a ridiculous low price

We had seen some fine treasures and were heading out when I spied this in a corner. Apparently it had been there a while and the owner wanted it gone. I was happy to oblige.
have to thank Andy for the assist, had he not inquired about what they might have in back we would have never seen this.

I have exactly the same gun in .58! It’s an awesome rifle. Congratulations

Thanks, I have a 50 cal as well but always wanted a 54. And, since the muzzle loading hunting rules here are kind of convoluted, the 54 makes it easier.

Bore is pristine. Fired little if all I would say.

"I Hatchet Jack, being of sound mind and broke legs, do hereby leaveth my bear rifle to whatever finds it. Lord, hope it be a white man. It is a good rifle, and kilt the bear that kilt me. Anyway, I am dead. Yours truly, Hatchet Jack."

That is a good-looking rifle! That rear aperture sight and sling studs are nice additions.

I was so excited about the deal I didn't even pay attention to the peep sight until Andy pointed it out as an original T/C sight. It alone is worth the price I paid.

There was a lot of excitement going on I was just as happy for you to get the deal done! That was a fun interaction with that shop owner.

I agree, it was something for him to spend the time to show us what was not on display. makes you want to do business with a shop like that.

I'm confused..Its been awhile but....The T/C Hawken was available in .45 and 50....and the .54 was the Renegade...never recall T/C selling a .58....After-market barrels?

I believe you are correct. My 50 is a Hawken, this 54 is a Renegade. There have been 58's from T/C but I can't say for certain which model it was.

Renegade doesn't have brass nor a patchbox. OP is a Hawken.

Yep, what he said. The Renegade was the “budget” gun without brass furniture and no patch box. I don’t think k it had a double set trigger either. But I’m going from memory here…

I owned one of the original Renegades...those had double set triggers...but we're otherwise "plain Jane"

I recall owning one too a long time ago. I couldn’t remember if the trigger was a single or double. It was a nice gun but I really was not into BP back then. It was just a season extender and one more tag for me. Sold it when I got my first in-line.
