9mm garden guns

Anyone here ever shoot one?
Good for much at all ?

Reason I ask is I have ammo for one.
Just enough that if I saw a gun cheap it may be worth playing with.
It was in the free bin at the shop.
Yes they have a free bin.
I'm probably the only guy that tosses the owner some money for the free stuff.

A link with the 4-1-1: https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/202 ... m-flobert/

A rural-dwelling friend uses light #9 shotshell handloads out of his .44 Blackhawk for carpenter bee control. Sounds like this is going to pattern tighter, probably with a little less noise.

They are quite useful for small pests such as rats but only really effective at a maximum of 12 to 15 yards. Webley & Scott made a bolt action .410 but also a 9mm. rim-fire. The .410's are very common but the 9mm. less so and the rarest of them all was the .22rf. shotgun. Both were single shot models. One fault was that the extractor has a nasty habit of falling out in not handled carefully. I have a couple of spare extractors and one day I will find one on a dealer's shelf minus its extractor which will be just about useless without one and be going for next to nothing. This photo shows my 9mm. and .22rf. models.

I bet that would be hell on a carpenter bee.

Probably great for chipmunks too.
A 1/4 once payload seems perfect for them
I use a pellet pistol here but can see places it could be applied.

If I see a gun sometime I'll have an excuse

Pretty darn good
It's where I've picked up some of the doubles affordable or cheap 🤔

Picked up a free AR barrel and some muzzle breaks from that bin
Not sure what I'll do with them yet.

I find myself wanting a 1/3 scale SMLE that feeds these 9mm Flobert shotshells from stripper clips. . .so I can mad-minute the carpenter bees when they decide to gang up and swarm.

I love the strange, weird and obsolete. That would be cool to have just to **** with. I used to have a Jennings 22 that would cycle with snake shot. You could shoot a bird and it would fly away 😅

Someday if I see one cheap.
I'll pick it up and play.
If not I'll just flip the ammo.
By what I looked up it goes for 50 a box and is hard to get.

Kids should be set for awhile....lol

Now if I lived by that cicada hatch it would be different

That round was made for the cicadas hatch, just flip a few boxes to offset the gun cost

So you’ve got around $300 worth of ammo you can’t shoot and is really only good for bugs and such out of a fun you don’t have.

So why isn’t it listed on gun broker yet?

No need right now.
If I find a gun cheap I see it as being a lot of fun to try out and
I'd rather try it out
To me it would actually be good for pests in a rural setting.
15-20 yards and low noise.
Some likable things.

It would be easy to make a barrel insert for a break action shotgun for that ammo.

Would it work without other alterations being rimfire ammo ?

Many years ago I bought an adapter for my XP 100 221 Fireball. It was a kit with 221 cases machined to accept 209 shotshell primers. Then they could be loaded with 22 pellets. I have both an XP and a rifle that I could shoot with these. At 60 ft. they would shoot to POA with both. They're fun to shoot in the backyard. Minimal noise. Of course, you could put a scootch of powder in the case for a little extra zip.
The outfit was called convert-a-pell

It's a shame RCBS quit making this die set.

As an aside I have a bid on a rifle/shotgun
Hopefully there's not much interest other than me.
