Someone just needs to start a Smartphones are the Greatest Invention thread and I'm pretty sure he'll show up.

I told ya, by the time you put enough El Yucateco on your Taco Bell to make it palatable, you're going to have problems.

You mustn’t have been to Crotcho Smell lately. The days of a few bucks for a cheap lunch have passed.

Years ago when TB got sued for labeling the “meat” in their food as beef I decided that my last purchase of their food had been made. I’ve successfully kept to that decision since then.

The good news is that in my new region great/cheap Mexican food is available every 10 feet. There is even a Mexican Supermarket that has become my favorite overall grocery shopping venue and they have a cooked food counter. They sell you a full dinner of meat, rice and refried beans for just over $12 and it’s really two meals worth of food. I can’t finish it in one sitting. 👍🏻👍🏻

I never heard of that so I did a quick Google search. More than 1 source says this, so maybe they changed their ways?

They must have because the suit was for real. I remember they mentioned one of the ingredients being oatmeal and the plaintiff claimed Taco Bell was using 35% beef and the rest was fillers and seasonings. Taco Bell came back and proved their “meat” was 88% beef and the rest was undisclosed fillers if I remember correctly. That was enough to legally call it beef. That was in 2011. Do t know what has changed since then.

When I moved to California over 40 years ago, my wife played a trick on me, she asked if I wanted to try Mexican food? Being from rural SW Pa, I never had Mexican food so, I said sure! She took me to TB, I swore off Mexican food. She repented for her sin, and I love good Mexican food. I have not eaten at TB again.

Read their description again, "Similar to The beef" and "without antibiotics that are important to human medicine" Really?

I worked in a half-way house for a few years and helped in the kitchen occasionally. Chili was on the menu and I made a chili base that was fantastic! Then I added the companies "meat product" to it and destroyed my chili. It is the same crap they use at TB. In the future, I made a bean chili and excluded the so-called "meat product".

We're talking Mexican food and still Zorba

Don’t know where Zorba is but…

I have taken to using Cardenas (the Mexican supermarket I mentioned before) taco meat for making my chili. I gave up on using ground meat in favor of coarse ground years ago and that was a good switch according to my harshest critics (my family who pulls no punches when handing out Michelin stars 🤣).

The taco meat at Cardenas is cut even coarser than the coarse ground I used to get from the butcher, almost like it’s shredded. The trick is I pre-season the meat the day before and chill in the fridge overnight, then throw it into some real lard to brown it just enough to kill the pink on the outside and start cooking my chili using my recipe and the results are amazing. I serve it with a pot of my Frijoles de Olla, cooked until they are THICK and starting to fall apart, on the side and folks can mix them on the plate if they want to. I also get a bag of fresh made flour tortillas (they make their own every day) from the same place to scoop up the juicy bits off the plate. This is basically Chuck wagon cooking. I used to get leftovers when I cooked a big batch, but no more…. Give this a try if you feel so inclined, you can thank me later. 👍
