32 ACP… Yugo surplus pistol

A buddy of mine that is into weird guns like I am got me interested in the .32 caliber. I was kinda kicking around the idea of getting a 32H&R mag or a .327 Federal as a little knock around plinker when I got an email from Atlantic selling “gunsmith specials” and they listed the little Yugo M70-1 with the finish listed as “patina” for dirt cheap…

So, I decided to “find out”

Mine came in in much better shape than I thought it would:

I scrounged up some ammo and found out for being an ugly cold-war relic, it’s actually a pretty good shooter!

My kiddo liked shooting it, and burned up all my ammo stash

So now I am looking at getting dies and components to load this since I now have 3 pistols in that caliber. While researching loads, I came across someone who said that the 32ACP is like the Miata in the pistol shooting world. It’s fun, light, accurate, easy to shoot…. And all your friends will make fun of it.

Nice! I like .32's myself. I have a S&W in .32 S&W and a Ruger Single Six in .32 H&R Mag. Enjoy shooting both.

How does it fit in a pants/shorts pocket?

That finish definitely isn't too bad at all. I have a weird love affair for the 32 caliber, mostly because the first gun I bought was a j frame model 30 in 32 s&w long, from a friend of mine. I still own it. I also ended up with a huge bag full of 32 acp and never had a gun for it so I ended up buying a cheap KelTec and it's alot of fun to shoot also.

Yeah, but it is all steel, so it would be pretty heavy for pocket carry. Plus- not sure I would trust carrying this cocked and locked. The safety is a bit janky

That’s a very decent target. What’s not to love a nice pocket carry!

You were right about being dirt cheap, i.e. "inexpensive". Great target though. It's like the difference between a Timex and a Rolex.
They both show the same time.

Having dabbled with a lot of what's out there, I've come to prefer the .32 to the .380 - in the older blowback actions at least. Most of those guns were originally designed for .32, and the .380 was later shoehorned in, making for a snappier recoil with a round that probably isn't offering much in the way of performance gains. Either will penetrate enough to do the job so long as the bullets AREN'T designed to expand

If you're casting, it's about a 70 grain drain on your pot and maybe a two grain powder charge. Hard to beat the economy.

Yeah but you don't have a colt officers match or whatever they call it in 32 S&W long.
Just saying

That's a nice target......low cost isn't necessarily cheap

Maybe, but I’ll be shooting after ammo is $5.00 per round

I said “reloading will save you no money, especially if you count the time you put into it”.

But you do you :D

Used to, I could save money loading 9mm. Now primers cost half what a thousand rounds of loaded 9mm does.

But, you don’t get paid for hobby’s. (Mostly) That’s why it’s a hobby. More importantly it’s time away from the wife. I’d PAY for that poop!

Sure 9mm you can buy fairly cheaply. The trick is to find 32-20, 44 special, 45 colt, 38-55, 348wcf, 357 or most others at any price that isn’t obscene. That’s why I reload, not for cheap but for ammo. Most of the time I can load a lot cheaper than retail, ammo at cost.

You could have saved time by saying
“Anything NOT 9mm.”

😬

Because anything not 9mm, is stupid priced.
