Update on move and location
Hi folks!
Still on the move but I think were unloading here…. Tried Phoenix for a while, considered Flagstaff, Prescott and other Norther AZ locations but ended up in Las Vegas Nevada.
Daughter made a strong case for us staying close to her an my SIL. My son’s life is pretty settled and my granddaughter is 12 so they are pretty self sufficient. My daughter and her husband are in a somewhat chaotic stage in theirs. SIL is a Commercial pilot for a major airline and daughter is flying just about every day working on her commercial pilot license so she too can go fly for an airline. In the middle of this they are planning to start a family this year and have two dogs. Mom and dad can sure be used to lend a helping hand and this is now our main purpose in life.
So it looks like it’s Vegas for the end point. And it’s a great place as we have learned in the last few months!!!
Most folks assume Vegas is just the strip and they could not be more wrong, thought it is nice to be close to a MAJOR entertainment destinations. In the next few months we already have tickets to attend shows by folks such as Tom Segura and Garth Brooks!!! The restaurant scene is amazing!
But once you get out of the strip, I have an obscene amount of land to play with. Shooting is about 15 minutes away from the house on BLM land and i just drive the Jeep until I find a suitable place, set up and have a great time with no other folks or an RO breathing down my neck. Shotgunning and LR Rifle shooting is EVERYWHERE. Family and I make impromptu shooting trips all the time, just about every week!
Outdoor activities are everywhere. We hike, play pickle ball with the kids and enjoy drives into the desert and explore new places constantly. We have Mt. Charlestown Wilderness Area that is just 40 mins away so right now going from 50 degrees to snow and sub 30s and skiing and hiking is just a very short drive. We spent this past weekend at a cabin in Souther Utah skiing! Drive was less than 3 hours and we came back to 60s t-shirt weather after being at 10,000+ ft and sub 10 at night for 4 days. That was a little surreal. And Phoenix is only a beautiful drive 3.5 miles away so visiting son is a snap decision.
The sights are unbelievable everywhere I turn. So if by any chance you are contemplating a change of scenery head on out here. My only disappointment is that it took me so long to move here.
If you live in the area or reasonably close drop me a line, would love to meet the folks out here and maybe we can get a get a regional shoot going!

I have not been out there since I turned 21. My mom's dad lived in Henderson for a long time and we used to visit as a family every year. I do miss that area. Lots to do and at least you don't have to worry about PEPCON.

You’ll move again. Thats not the final spot.

Oh no. There is a lot of crime out there. I know. I've seen several episodes of CSI: Vegas!
At least there are places to raise some quick cash if you need it.......

Oh good and I was thinking a thong and having pictures taken with tourists on the strip. Pawn is easier on the ol’butt.
Re: Update on move and location
This is great news that you have decided on Nevada. You are discovering Nevada is still the wild west which is unquestionably where you belong! keep your distance from any place east of the mountain time zone! There are many more adventures coming your way! Ghost towns along the western edge (might want to check the Goldfield Gun Shop on the way to Reno), Tahoe, Great Basin National Park, Cathedral Gorge, Jarbridge, and a lot more. Las Vegas has a subsidized airport so fares to anywhere are reasonable and available (just in case).

The best thing I've found about Las Vegas is that there are gas stations and restaurants on either side of it that allow you to drive through without stopping. It takes a parched desert wasteland - which in and of itself has some small charms to make it worth visiting occasionally - and ruins it by adding a whole mess of humans.
WWJMBD?
I believe we should stand on Ceremony. . . while our friends handcuff the sanctimonious little prick and take him away.

Cool! Good state income tax there.

Nice! But Phoenix is only 3.5 miles away?

Airfare to/from here is crazy cheap for sure! So are hotel rooms and such.Japhy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 11:25 pm This is great news that you have decided on Nevada. And yes outside of the strip this is a completely different place than what most envision. It is still the “West” and it is the place where I feel the most at home. Bought a bunch of maps and wife, kids and myself are far from running out of yellow highlighter building the roadmap of places to explore.

And please make sure you tell that to everyone you meet. There are waaaaaay too many California plates around here. I want to pay for a sign on the western state line that says free gas until you get your ass to liberal New Mexico. Keep driving, you’re not wanted here.Bigslug wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2024 1:36 pm The best thing I've found about Las Vegas is that there are gas stations and restaurants on either side of it that allow you to drive through without stopping. Wambli's just a wee bit navigationally challenged

Re: Update on move and location
I remember the first time I was in Las Vegas, it was 112deg and there were about a dozen heat related deaths that day.
I am not real fond of the strip but we do have a timeshare there. I could go there to the Grandview and go no farther than across the street to the South Point casino.

Re: Update on move and location
There are at least 25 flights a day from LAS to PHX flight time is about 45 minutes and the fare is less than a tank of gas. Dammed for the return.
