I think I've figured out my retirement gig...for this week!

Post by 12th Man »

I'm somewhere between two to four years until I retire. I know I have to do something in my retirement age besides run this giant Texas size 162.5 acre ranch we own and live on. They just announced there is a new Ace Hardware that's going to be built in our little town. For this week, I think I may wear a red vest a few days a week. Last week it setting up a small woodshop and making cutting boards and small epoxy projects. I'll probably do that anyway. Sounds like fun!!!

Next week it may be something new, but Ace Hardware sounds fun!

Your manager will make or break your Ace Hardware experience, son # 2 worked at one for 2 years, and the customers that show up at 6:00 when the store closes at 6:00 will make you say bad words

Well I was hoping you'd read the sarcasm in that! :D

Olney TX is a town of just over 3000 people, The Ace they're building is a scaled down version of a normal Ace. At least this is what we've heard. The other hardware store in town caters to oil workers. I still have plenty of time to figure out what I want to do. Sitting home and annoying my wife day in and day out could be dangerous to my health and wellbeing! :D :D

I figured, but I couldn’t pass it up. I’m far from Texas but we legitimately have a guy down the road who has what I guess you could call a commercial garden that’s bigger than that. They grow all your standard produce. But it’s fun to go to the produce stand on the farm every year they grow some weird stuff for fun, some of it’s good some not so much. They just got their first crop of Lucy Glow apples which have red flesh they are tart and pretty good

The closest town to us is about that size and just got a brand new big Ace it’s been awesome. A 20min run to town beats an 1hr drive any day.

One would think there's enough work on the ranch to keep you as busy as you want to be...when I retired I signed on as a ranch hand and worked my ass off...and it wasn't even my place,!

I just pulled the trigger and officially retired ( until some construction company throws a bunch of money at me ).
I’ve already got an interview with BassPro and sent my paperwork to reinstate my USCG license. Doubt I’ll be still for long.

Good for you. I'm a firm believer, we have to remain busy in our golden years and not be a couch cushion!

I'm pondering retirement between tomorrow and November, it depends on how bad they piss me off. All that is for sure tight now is they will get a two-day notice... Today, I quit! I have already decided I'm getting an inflatable fishing Kayak and hunting a lot more.
