Acorns are scary!

Post by CPJ 2.0 »

TLDR: Cop has dude handcuffed in the back seat. Acorn falls and hits car. Cop “has been shot” and mag dumps his patrol car.
Remember, cops are the only ones responsible enough to carry guns. That’s what the politicians say.

Not just the deputy, but his sergeant also fires multiple times.

I understand why the sergeant fired, but the settlement may get even higher with that.

That actually happened here late last year and nobody knew about it until the bodycam footage was released a few days ago. I don't have a high opinion of the Okaloosa county sheriff's department and this kinda reinforces my opinion. The majority of the Sheriff's department is former Air Force cops (including the last three sheriffs) and it's a big click of minimally qualified and trained traffic cops.

I guess those of us who have sat in the dark in a deer stand holding tight during the approach of an "800 pound bear" - aka a squirrel, chipmunk, or small bird making an inordinate amount of noise in the underbrush - can pat ourselves on the back for our nerves of steel.

I can see how a hard object falling on a car could be interpreted as a gunshot contained inside that car, but in theory, one searches them for weapons during the cuffing and stuffing process, and there's some analytical clues missing - additional shots, broken window from within etc. . . React by ducking and getting your gun out? Sure. Light up the car? Ummmmm. . .no.

They wanted the guy in the car to show his hands after the shooting stopped.

Which was difficult because...

His hands were still cuffed.

Behind his back.

The cop resigned in December, after it was determined that he did not adhere to protocol. He emptied a magazine and reloaded, and when he initially dove on the ground, he thought that he'd been hit. Fortunately, the guy handcuffed in the back seat wasn't hurt but I'm sure the county will be handing him a check. I would have liked to see the car.

When I was a mechanic, had I an extraordinary fear of being crushed by a car, I would have found another line of work.

My favorite part was the evasive ninja rolls after he was shot by the acorn.

The female officer didn't witness anything but started pumping rounds into the car just because the first guy told her that shots came from it. She was cleared of any procedural violation and wrongdoing! It sounded like there were at least 25 or 30 rounds fired and there were cars driving up and down the street behind it!

He really had NO choice but to resign. Im not a cop, but I know cops, and most have a sick sense of humor and they would have **** with him RELENTLESSLY. (as they should)

I wish there was video of the cops opening the back of the squad to get the guy in the back seat out, would have gotten an earful out of me had I been in the back seat cuffed

The DA-to-SA transitioning trigger mechanism with decocker on autos. . .

LAPD converting their service revolvers to SAO by grinding the SA sear notch off the hammers. . .

The NYPD Glock trigger parts. . .

The AK-47 in its entirety. . .

It SAYS something about humanity and its institutions that member incompetence is something that is accepted to such a degree that we deliberately design equipment to account for it. If that could only be somehow better worked into the hiring and assigning phase.

Idiot proof equipment remains so only until idiots devolve, which is a very short time.
