Cimarron 1887

Post by Elk Creek »

Well my LGS did it to me again. They ordered a gun and said “I bet ole Creek buys this gun.” They were 100 percent correct! It’s a Cimarron 1887 12 ga levergun. It has a 20” tube 5 round mag and a IC choke, barely. It’s a Chinese gun but they used California walnut to stock them apparently. Overall it a great looking gun then action is on par the any Italian gun out there. It is the nicest chicom gun I’ve ever seen. The finish sucks it will show wear fast! Just the last couple days of playing with it is showing thin spots… oh well it’s a cowboy gun so meh. The weather has been dicy this week WINDY and cold. So windy target stands will blow out of the ground and can hurt you! I really like this shotgun. Can’t wait to get it to the range.

Cool. I’ve seen that one on Bud’s web site.

Probably the coolest shotgun ever built.

Agreed!! A John Browning scattergun! Doesn’t get any cooler than that!

Yeah there will be NO twirling of this shotgun! It’s kinda heavy and I don’t like a loaded gun chambering a round sweeping me from. Head to toe!

full disclosure.
I did have to stone the top front face of the trigger, as the sear and half cock notch ride over it while cocking. The sear would hang up on a high spot and then “jump” to the trigger sear. I figured that wasn’t good. It took about 2 swipes with a stone to flatten that out and now the sear and half cock just glide over that spot.

That’s not even a speed bump in the decision making process.

When I bout the two TrStars I read a bunch of reviews that said when new they had a tendency to fire both barrels at the same time until they broke in and the they were fine. Well both the 28ga and the .410 both did it once and not since. At the prices we get these quality guns I think it’s ok to expect a little quirk here and there. It’s all good!

Agreed. The 1887 is stupid simple…. Technically it’s a repeating rolling block

Ha! My wife tricked me into more “moving work” today so I couldn’t play hooky and go shooting…. She seems to think that getting the bed put together so we’re not sleeping on our mattress on the floor takes priority over me shooting. How dare she… 🤬

Tomorrow I’m out of here before noon come hell or highways. There might be an unscheduled stop at BPS to look into bullet availability. Need to hoard a few 😁
