Daewoo project.
Amongst the billion other ideas and projects that float around in my life, I was made aware by a customer that the Daewoo K2 rifle he owns only has 1:14 twist barrels and that there's a cult following of people that would pay dearly for 1:7 or 1:8 twist barrels. So he let me borrow his upper, barrel and bolt. The barrel extension is almost the same as one for an ar15 but it's longer with the same locking lugs. So I ordered some GM blanks and some barrel extensions and took measurements from his barrel. I have about 30 people waiting on these things. I had to turn off the ar shoulder and make extended shim/shoulders but they mic out perfectly.
The gun is a love child of the ar and ak platforms. Weird things.

Here I was thinking that you purchased a container ship to build a workshop in.
That should be a neat project.

I remember when CDNN was selling those rifles, to broke back then to grab one or I would have

I remember you mentioning that little project.
I'm glad it's working out and hope it works out as well as we discussed

I'm considering to have a cnc shop make about 100 of these. Not a single person has even batted an eye at the price I've laid out.

One of the biggest mistakes in my life was selling my Daewoo A1-K1. Those things have gotten stupid expensive over the years. Who knew…

And now have the weirdest cult following ive ever seen. The customer that let me use his barrel and bolt for measurements also has me making him a barrel in 300 black out which will make it the only of its kind.Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 3:58 am One of the biggest mistakes in my life was selling my Daewoo A1-K1. Little update.
I got the first three barrels done. These are going to the guy that let me borrow his barrel, bolt and upper to take specs from. Ordered 5 more blanks. I have about 21 of these pre ordered from people.

Nice little niche you have carved out there

I kick myself for not buying one of those rifles back when they were imported. Good on you helping the platform survive

My K1-A1 only cost me $400. At the time it was a cheap alternative to an AR. I sold it years later for considerable more than that and it’s worth even more now. My biggest concern was that it was becoming a collectible with no supply line in case of parts failure. But it was a hoot to shoot and more accurate than any AR I bumped into back then. No optics capability (maybe another niche market for Justsomedude?bullsi1911 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 12:20 pm I kick myself for not buying one of those rifles back when they were imported. To be functional it would need to be a drill and tap affair with a custom mount.

That's a slick adaptation you've got! Enjoy the economy of scale - easier when you can cookie-cutter them out.
Between the M16-A1 and M4 upgrades to the platform, we've got the AR-15 about as reliable as anything man-made can be - provided you think to apply a little lube to the BCG from time to time. . .
. . .but it's good to know there are systems out there designed around those individuals who can't spell "oil".

Even stranger. Another daewoo owner contacted me with the idea that he wants to make his K2 into a 9mm blowback. Basically like the AR9 platform. He sent me the blueprints (very nice ones at that) and we agreed on a price. Very pleased with the tolerances I hit. +.0004 on a manual lathe.
