6mm ARC Terminal Testing & The SJS Pig Fest!

Post by Zee »

It’s that time of year again! When the Secret Jackass Society converges on Texas for Pig Fest ‘24! 5 days of hunting and shenanigans.
We have much to accomplish. Testing Chris, new knife, long range shooting, pistol shooting, cooking, welding, plumbing, and breaking in my French Model to the ways of the SJS.
On top of that, I’ve been tasked from the shoe store with testing the 6mm ARC cartridge and platform for terminal performance utilizing the Hornady 106gr TAP ammunition. We will be running 4 different rifle platforms. Two AR platforms and 2 bolt gun platforms.

Does "testing" Chris involve zipties and chloroform ;)

When your boss hands you a case of ammo and tells you to go pig hunting on the clock. . .I think you can pretty much say that you've arrived.

Question: How good is a Society of Jackasses at staying Secret?
WWJMBD?

I believe we should stand on Ceremony. . . while our friends handcuff the sanctimonious little prick and take him away.

I’m looking forward to it and providing one of the bolt gun test platforms. Took it out yesterday for my own load work and got 50 rounds of 75gr Vmax loads put together today. Not the ammo we’re seeking data on, so much. But it provides other options, if needed.

A case of ammo, a Mark 5, and a Geissele upper.
I’ve found my niche.

The SJS is a close society.

We may sneak some predators in if coolers are full or we are tired of pigs.

Didn’t get spectacular results at the range today. Don’t know if it was the ammo or the platform, of the fact it was brand new barrel.
🤷‍♂️

Side note, but what do you think of the Mark 5 2-10?

Not a bad for a mid range scope. Not a fan of the reticle for precision. The center dot covers up 3/4 of a 1” paster. And, the mil system reticle on mine isn’t really useful. Heavy scope.
But, glass is clear, turrets are nice. So…….

This is the reticle on the scope I’m testing and everything is to corse and the stadias useless for anything past 300.

Ok, correction. I guess I was using a 1/2” or 3/4” paster today. The dot was still too big for my precise aiming. Guess I need to take my head out of the accuracy testing mindset and get into the terminal mindset. Our tasking is not accuracy. It’s terminal performance.

Well, it *was* pretty good.
But when someone stays the NAME OF THE SECRET SOCIETY instead of the letters, the secret comes out.

Zeds not too bright. But….ammo. Guns. Pigs. Stuff and things. What’s a guy to do but love the little guy?
