Good Bad & Ugly shops

You guys are doing really nice jobs !
I am still working on mine ........ not as fast as I would like but it's moving along .
I spend a lot of time organizing & working on things in the shop .
With the days getting shorter I had to get some lights up to see to work .
I hope to have the first floor of shop 3 framed by winter .Soon I will be splitting fire wood so things on the shop will slow down a bit .

It is taking a long time but worth it in my mind .
People not wanting to work & the prices going way up for materials hasn't helped much at all .Shop 3 will be for my treasures & a place to relax .
The other shops will be for working on projects .
Already thinking 7000 sqft isn't big enough .
Will see once it's done .

Question for the gurus-
I have decided I need some sort of floor covering in my little hideaway. The particle board decking has already flaked off a couple of chips, and I don’t want to have to re-deck it. What would be a good covering? It is about a 12x17 foot area

I would get vinyl sheet. It would be a little $$ because you would have to put down sheets of luan.
Cheapest would be to watch ads for an area rug. We have an Ollie's that has them cheap.

Well, I’m hoping for cheap as possible. I was looking at the interlocking rubber mats, but that was almost $130.

Thats probably the cheapest and most easy option.

Or a rug. They really tie the room together.

You could look at some floor epoxy .
I did that in my one garage area & seems to hold up well .
It's grey but you can add flecks on it if you want .
Then it would be sealed & if you wanted to you could put a small area rug .Parts & things always hit the floor & it's nice to have it smooth so it's easier to find things on & easy to clean up .
Even a few heavy coats of paint would work .
Sealing the wood is what's needed .
There are lots of choices ...... all depends on what you are willing to spend .
Could watch for close outs on vinyl A
A smooth floor in my opinion is best for a work area .

I am laying sub floor on my second floor of shop 3 now ..... it's 16' x 50' area
It is a pain in the butt to deal with .
I will probably put under lament over the sub floor after I have all the walls & wiring done .
Then decide on what type of flooring I want up there .
I am thinking a lament floor .
That area will just be used to display collections so not a high traffic area .
The first floor will be used a lot more so probably go with commercial tile .

I only have 4' more to go on the floor on the second floor of shop 3 .
Then I can start on walls & rafters .
They are calling for in the 80s for the next few days so I won't be working in that heat up there .
Once it cools back down I will be up there pounding away

These were like $24 at the Homeless Despot. We shal see how they work in the shop.

Winding down for winter around the west shops .
No heat out there yet .
Have put in a good summers work out there & soon will be in shop 1 messing with treasures .
I picked up a Contender in 44 & 375 .
It should be a fun shooter once I get the scope adjusted so my fat thumb will fit under it .

That looks interesting but wonder about the safety on the hammer .

I’ve never seen one with a bonafide safety. Only a selector that goes from center fire to rim fire.
Regardless, it’s safe when the hammer is down. Anything else is redundant.

I probably won't shoot it much so will try the hammer extension cpj told me about .
I do have a few other choices I can make to go shoot .

Building shop 3 & 4 has really cut down on shooting .
Doing the construction myself has set me way back on things I would rather be doing .

The temps are in the 40s so may try a cold day at shop 4 today .
I have the first floor closed in a bit so maybe a heater will get me some work out there .
As long as the snow stays away I can get in out there .

With the snow gone early this year I have spent a lot of time at the west shops .
Things should go better this year because I bought a 29' skyjack for the shops .
It's a tad ugly but should help .
Managed to get my Winchester 97 C done & a .22 rifle & almost done with the 97 D .

A lot of fitting needs doing on new wood .

I bought a skyjack to work on my west shops .
That should help a lot with the high work .

When the heat & humidity hits here I will work on stocks .
I tried out the sky jack yesterday ...... that thing goes a long ways up !
I managed to get 3 more 8' lights up yesterday .
A guy need sea legs up on those !

Been a while. Some work done in my shop. But two of my current, cooler items going on…

This Texaco gas station sign was here on my farm for years. It was made in 1965. It was given to a buddy of mine years ago. He decided to part with it and let me have it back. So I hung it up in the shop. As seen, I also put in a sink

While picking up the sign, my buddy offered me this 1983 Coke machine, for free… knowing it doesn’t get cold, I graciously accepted. If nothing else, I figured I’d gut it and use it as a powder storage cabinet or something. After finding out its age and where it came from, I decided to see what it would take to get it running and make it a beer fridge. $561 later, I’ve got the parts ordered…

Now that's the fun stuff Jay !!
It's what a shop should be like .
I try to get some time in on shops every day .
I work slow but hey I'm old !
I post every day in the other forum I'm in .
More there take part in the conversations & it is a lot easier to see & post on for me .
The sky jack & bought has really helped out in the shops .
I now have 2 garage door openers up & working .
I will keep putting up rafters & walls on the second floor this summer .
When it gets to hot to work up high ...... I do things on the ground floor .
We had over 5 ' of rain the last week & some nasty storms come through .
That's when my old butt heads for home .
I managed a big heavy window in on the first floor ...... that's some tricky stuff alone .
That way I can see out there from shop 3 .
Lots of sorting & organizing going on too along with other projects .
