Alot to think about with them If the goal is long range accuracy.
Especially so if using black powder.
The pointed bullet may help some in aerodynamics but then it's a 45-70.
The shape could also hurt too with less area engraving the rifling..

Valid point. The longest target at the Quigley is 805 yards shot from cross sticks. Not sure of the target size but I believe a hit is a hit regardless.
Years ago I shot my 40-65 C. Sharps at 600 yards at a 20" gong and was able to hit after some sighter shots. Biggest problem will be finding someplace. to practice, my range only goes to 200 yards.
With regards to the loads, there are a few restrictions but in general the rules are pretty relaxed. I get best results from a duplex load in my 40-65 so may try that in this one as well.
