Went shooting today
Went shooting today
Since today is a bank holiday, son #1 came down to try out his new Holosun 407 Green dot he bought last weekend. He mounted it on his M2011 9 mm(pic to follow). It appears to be a 9mm 1911 with some “upgrades”.
I have got to get one of these sights. I shot better with this sight than I’ve ever shot. I’ll have to get another pistol though(darn it).
Re: Went shooting today
We were shooting from a copy of CPJ’s portable shooting bench and an el cheapo Caldwell plastic pistol rest. We were shooting at 15 yards
I was very impressed with the results. He basically got it sighted in in less than one magazine.
This gun has a very heavy trigger. It really needs to be worked on. It’s very similar to a DA revolver.

Re: Went shooting today
This target, hopefully, is 2 magazines rapid fire.
Re: Went shooting today
Neither one of us could be called a marksman, but we DEFINITELY shot better with this Holosun. Only drawback is the gun has a green FO sight so once or twice I caught myself sighting with the front sight instead of the Holosun dot.
All in all, it was a good day.

I'm a fan
Since you're considering getting a pistol for one, I like the PSA Daggers, either the full 17rnd size or the 15round mid size (Think glock 17 or 19)
They have this "funky" upper half on sale for $170 https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-dag ... 1655130651
and you can get one of their complete lowers, minus mag, of either size, for $50
FS https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-dag ... black.html
compact: https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-dag ... lack2.html
The reasoning behind the rear sight being infront of the optic is so there's no way for the rear sight to block you seeing the dot, while they still co-witness
They're basically Gen 3 Glock clones, but they've changed the grip. I like it better than my Gen1 Glocks. That's why I own both sized frames and one "regular slide, and one optic cut one
Edited to add: They also have green and tan frames if you like the two tone look
Edited again to add: If you like the price of that slide assembly, but aren't wild about the forward rear sight position, they also have a "plain" SS slide assembly for $160

Re: Went shooting today
I forgot about the Dagger. I’m contemplating a Glock(now Dagger). Thanks for reminding me about the Dagger. Gonna take a little while to refill the gun fund.
Btw, only Glock I’ve ever shot is my M44. Is there much of any difference between a 44 and any of the 9mm Glock models?

I forget what part of MS you're in, but I'm willing to meet you around the state line and let you see if you like the Dagger grip frame. (Unless you live in the southern end, Pasgagoula is a tad far)

Oh, and buying the parts saves you the 11% excise tax collected on complete firearms (Pittman Act)
The run specials on them fairly frequently, so picking up the lower when it's cheap, and then have the upper half sent to your house when it's a deal.
One of my frames came with a NICE pistol case

Re: Went shooting today
I knew some of y’all would like that. It’s really a game changer. I’ve been wanting to try one. At $240 it’s a no-brainer.
We love the bench. It’s perfect for rifles. I’d like more platform directly in front for handguns but it worked fine. I’m certainly not gonna make another top. It’s also surprisingly sturdy. Those legs lock down tight.
Idk if you created that or if you used a plan from somewhere. I definitely appreciate you posting about it.
We were shooting in my pasture immediately behind the house. I keep it in my shop, just threw it in the back of the truck for the short distance. I took the truck so we could use the tailgate for a table.

I'll definitely check in to the Dagger. Right now buying in bits and pieces will have to be the way to goGrapeApe wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 11:02 pm Oh, and buying the parts saves you the 11% excise tax collected on complete firearms (Pittman Act)

I snagged the basic idea of the internets, and added my flair. I did add a brace to the front, which I suggest doing. I used metal because I had it. A chunk of 2x4 would work also. Just need to be attached to the saw horse.Rugerfan wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 11:46 pmI knew some of y’all would like that. It’s really a game changer. I’ve been wanting to try one. I’d add some grease to the red plastic latches on the legs. Just a dab to make them close easy.

Re: Went shooting today
Mine’s still straight. Guess I should add the 2x4 before it’s too late.
Re: Went shooting today
Not so much to keep it straight, but it adds a fair amount of stiffness.

The 44 is basically a 19 (9mm) but chambered in .22lr. Size of the gun, magazines and controls are the same.Rugerfan wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 10:45 pm I forgot about the Dagger. 9mm kills the body, but .45 ACP destroys the soul!

I’ve been wanting to try one before I spent the $$.
I only shot from a rest. My son shot offhand and he really likes it.His offhand rapid fire was impressive At least to us it was. Some of y’all can do that good with open sights. I like the green dot. It was kinda confusing with the green dot AND a green front FO sight. I would prefer one to be different
He’ll be getting a 2nd one for his Canik which has an optic cut.
