What do you guys think of a swap and sell or classifieds?
I always like them and have junk for sale or trade ?
Re: What do you guys think of a swap and sell or classifieds?
Never a bad idea in my mind. Not sure anyone has cool stuff to match your cool stuff though

We tried the classified thing at the old G&A and not many posted. But I’m all for another go. Maybe instead of a formal section, just let folks post stuff they want to sell or trade as a regular thread?

I don’t need more cool stuff. Horrible idea, wait…….
Never mind, we all need more cool stuff!! Do it!

Wouldn’t be a bad idea.
I’d suggest just making a topic in “the pit” and making it a sticky.
1. Keeps the non members away.
2. Is easy for the admin. No reason to make it complicated.

The ever rising cost of shipping is the biggest hurdle.

Just curious how the alphabet peoples new rule on "being a dealer" would apply. Seems to me you can't even sell your stuff anymore without running through an ffl.

Not even close to the intent of that rule. Or likely how it's being applied.Justsomedude wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 8:00 pm Just curious how the alphabet peoples new rule on "being a dealer" would apply. Seems to me you can't even sell your stuff anymore without running through an ffl.

That rule is on hold for now anyway as it gets fought in court.

The ATF constantly makes up intent. I'm just trying to look out for folks. Wasn't aware that it was on hold either.jkp wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 11:16 pmNot even close to the intent of that rule. Am I wrong, but didn't the Supreme Court just rule that all of these agencies can't make up rules that have the force of law? Not democratic. The legislature has to make the laws. Why would you have to worry what the ATF would say if you're just selling "stuff". Guns would alert the ATF, but they won't know what's in the box if you don't tell them.
On the old G&A forum, I sold an S & W model 19 to a member. I just cashed his check, put it in a box, and mailed it. It's not like they xray the mail. Some of you old timers will remember this member showing off this gun and holster. It was like a dream come true for him, and never used it. Win---Win.
I also found like 100 rounds of 45 Colt cases. Ran it through the tumbler. Made a post on the old G & A and said first come first served. One member took it all, for the postage. Easy-peasy.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't overthink all of this. I have always believed in the words of Thoreau, ~200 years ago,
"...the power and, indeed, the obligation of the individual to determine right from wrong, independent of the dictates of society: "any man more right than his neighbors, constitutes a majority of one"

I seem to recall this being tried on one of the previous forum iterations and not getting much traffic.

1. Don’t post about it.
2. Do it on your own forum.

Re: What do you guys think of a swap and sell or classifieds?
I have considered doing this, but I really worry about someone starting a lawsuit and me getting named in it. There is precedence for such a thing happening (ADCO recently had to go through a huge lawsuit because of a sale that was done 100% legally), and the process IS the punishment.
I have no problem with people setting up F2F local sales (or even ones going through an FFL crossing state lines) in The Pit, or on IM. If I set up a whole classifieds section, it could open me to liability if someone does something illegal or unethical. Since this site is (for now) a hobby and 100% net drain on my family's finances- I cant assume any risk like that.
