Teddy’s Hogleg…
Always liked Teddy, the person, the President and his favorite Colt that he carried while cowboying as a young man in the Dakotas. The original is in many if not all of his photographs of the period.
Well today I got my own. Cimarron Arms reproduction of Teddy’s gun. Black powder frame, nickel plated, laser engraved and ready to be shot, NOT a collectible for me.

Re: Teddy’s Hogleg…
My personal enabler Elk creek showed me an outfit that makes an exact replica of the holster Teddy carried his in, carved leather double loop. I’ll be ordering one soon

I wanna see you with it in the matching fringed Eastern Dude-Suit.
WWJMBD?
I believe we should stand on Ceremony. . . while our friends handcuff the sanctimonious little prick and take him away.

Re: Teddy’s Hogleg…
In the early days Teddy had a 45-75 1876 Winchester. In 1887 he had a 1886 Winchester in 45-90 with a sharps in the same cartridge as a backup gun. All special orders.

Re: Teddy’s Hogleg…
I bought it from a friend who was going to take it to Africa and make believe he was Teddy. He never made the trip and sold me the rifle unfired, and threw in eight boxes of ammo! Four boxes are Teddy Roosevelt commemorative stuff and I'm hesitant to shoot them. Teddy had one on 06 also. They were his favorite rifles in Africa.Elk Creek wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 2:59 amYeah, I have a Browning 1895 in 06’ I feel the same! Loose some weight?!?!?!? My 32" jeans are already lose... I think I looked more like him (in his presidential years) when I was younger and substantially heavier. His 1876 Centennial (companion to this Colt) was chambered in 45-75.

Re: Teddy’s Hogleg…
Actually fringe buckskin was widely worn in the old west. Was windproof in the winter and dried very fast when wet.
But I don't have any of it. All my clothing and gear is leftovers from when I owned my small ranch and I'm rediscovering it. I've had to buy new pants because back then there was a bit more me, but all leather, hats, boots and other traps are in perfect condition and ready for my next horse which should be happening shortly.
Now good ol'Teddy was a man of means coming from a wealthy family and he LOVED custom guns and fancy gear and could afford just about anything he wanted at the time. All his guns were special order from the likes of Winchester and Colt and his clothing/gear came from famous outfitters like Abercrombie and Fitch when the catered to rich "adventurers" before they became a snowflake clothing emporium. The chaps he's wearing in this picture seem to be sealskin.

Re: Teddy’s Hogleg…
An 1895 is on my list of future rifles to get. I have never bumped into a well priced one intersecting the correct amount being in my gun account...fisheadgib wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 8:49 pmI bought it from a friend who was going to take it to Africa and make believe he was Teddy.
