Mine: was the masitas-fried pork chunks, arroz con gandules
Hers: pernil, arroz con gandules. we shared the Maduros.
It was awesome. The coffee was amazing! Large portions, had to take half home for dinner!!
It's hole in the wall, mom and pop cafe out by the beach, you know they make the best stuff!!
She had to get her PR food fix!!

I LOVE hole-in-the-wall type places! They serve the BEST!!!!! If I found a place like that convenient to me I'd never cook again. Masitas are tough to do right, most folks overcook them and make them tough and dry. When you find a place that does them right it's like finding gold, and your's look amazing. Pernil is usually a little easier to get right, though I'm not really fond of the latest Americanized trend to shred/chop it "pulled pork" style. That's fine if you're going to sauce it with a BBQ sauce, but Mama Vidén, my grandma on my mom's side, cooked it until it was just falling apart and then she carved it into thick chunks just before serving it on your plate and you shredded it yourself as you ate it. Stays moist and juicy that way.
There is ONE place here that apparently is true PR cooking and has a bunch of great reviews. It's been on my list for a while, time to make it happen. Thanks for the inspiration.
Would be a good meal to have just before the big All Blacks game against South Africa this coming sunday morning Wambli.......Thought I would give you a heads up. Scheduled to start at 3am NZ time sunday, not sure what time that is in your neck of the woods.
Tried to figure out time in NZ and my head almost blew up. From what I can gather you are 19 hours ahead of me on USA Pacific. Soooo that’s what 8:00 AM Saturday my time?!?!?!? So damn I better get in this now since it’s 4:30 PM Friday…
Ok I just signed up for NZ+ which is streaming the games for free in the Netherlands so I just have to point my VPN to the Netherlands and I should be able to watch the game live…. This should work

Perfect. We lost last weekends game to the Boks in the final 20mins......Its payback time!!!
Yep. The Boks are at the top of their game ....as befits the world champions. The All Blacks are in a building phase with a new coach and younger 'less blooded' players. Was a bloody good game to watch despite the AB'S losing.
The AB gave them a hell of a run but damn, the Bijs are just an amazing team right now. It was absolutely a great game to watch. I’m going to my DIL to watch the New York Jets on Monday because mostly family history with the team but it’s just painful to watch the NFL nowadays. Even when SA and NZ sang their National anthems, you could feel the Nationalism and passion for the sport. That is soooooo gone here…
