My random tip of the day. This is by far the absolute best tapping compound that I've ever used. It ironically makes a tap cut like butter. I need to try it as cutting fluid.
Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
Crisco @ 0.29 / ounce
Tapping compound @ 6.44 / ounce

I’ve used Crisco and I’ve used lard.
They work, but I prefer Hangsterfers Super All Tap. Syrup like consistency, and it sticks to the tap well. But not too well like I’ve found Crisco does.

Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
It's definitely sticky but it doesn't bother me. I just use my shop air to blow the tap clean between holes. I'm a big fan of anchor lube and the crisco even beats it at tapping. Much cheaper too, like Japhy said. The damndest thing I ever did was mix HBN with plain cutting oil into a slurry while tapping the holes for an RMR cut I did in a P365. Those slides are hard as shìt. It went from popping and creeking with plain cutting oil to cutting pretty good with the mix. Downside is that it's expensive and bad to breathe. My buddy had some because he coats his Savage 110 bore with it and let me get a dab to try.
Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
My other issue with it is that it doesn’t mix with coolant. And after a couple hours of cleaning my machine the other night, I want something that DOES mix. Bleh. Cleaning chips and coolant blows.

Very reasonable. Very well made. The stones it comes with are meh, but functional.

I needed a repeatable way to make the edge as close to the same from one knife to the next. This will do it. I just got lucky doing it freehand-ish before.

I’ve been in need of a good sharpener that will hold an assortment of knives at an adjustable angle, use diamond stones and clamps to the bench. It remains a back burner metal work project. Metal work project means no bandsaw, no mill, no lathe, no bench grinder.
Now I use a couple DMT stones and a razor strop.

I always finish with a strop.
And, I put this on the strop. Beats any other polishing media I’ve tried.
And. It. Don’t. Take. Much.

Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
I bought this cheapie and it works really good. Also has to be followed up with a strop.
Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
I’ll have a look that one looks reasonable
I had one sketched out that holds the knives vertically clamped at the handle to avoid interference with the stone. The angle is set from the edge by rotating the piece holding the stone to the angle needed.
I have chefs knives beveled at 15 degrees. It’s difficult to clamp that angle if the blade is narrow. The edc and work knives are more like 20 or 22. Wood chisels and plane blades are cut at even greater angle.

There are any number of sewing machines to be had in the used market for around $40. It’s not worth a major repair dollar wise to repair one, let alone the headache.

Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
Speaking of which, Singer Sewing machine oil is THE best oil for use in firearms, especially in closely machined areas. It absolutely will not thicken or turn to grease and then goo. It's second to actual whale oil which is illegal now.
Oh, got to try the crisco for turning and facing on the lathe and it works phenomenal. It stays put and doesn't fly off the part when it's spinning and my surface finishes were beautiful on both aluminum and steel.
