I have some information to share
I have some information to share
A few months ago, I went to a gun show not really expecting to find anything. Just in case though, I took some money along with me. As expected, what I found was high-priced everything and junk. I came across one guy that had a Browning 1885 in 22 Hornet. The rifle looked new, his asking price was too high, I thought. I got him off his price, but the 22 Hornet ended up being the dealbreaker for me.
I kept thinking about the Browning 1885 low wall in .223. I decided to start looking for one. I found one and ended up buying it. The rifle looked new with a great looking piece of wood. The one thing about these rifles is, beside the looks, the trigger is horrible. Probably between 4-5 lbs.
Now comes the information I want to share. There is a gunsmith in Lamar, MO, Lee Shaver, that does trigger jobs on the old time single shot rifles. Go to his website to get a feel for the rifles he works on. He actually changes the geometry of the sear to lighten the trigger. Mine went from 4-5 lbs.to 24 oz. He includes a lighter trigger return spring and a lighter half cock spring. All you do is pull out the trigger, send it to him, and he sends it back. Best of all is the price, $50 which includes return priority shipping. https://stores.leeshavergunsmithing.com/
By the way, I liked the 1885 so much, another one came available, so I bought it. The thing that sold me was the wood was better than the first.
Here is a photo of the first one

Thanks for the info.
That is a nice looking rifle. If the 2nd is even better, sure would like to see it

Great find. The Browning 1885's are a personal favorite of mine. Generally found well out of my price range unfortunately. I do have it's predecessor, the Browning model 78 in 45-70 that is always fun.
Re: I have some information to share
Ok, here are some pics of the wood on the other 1885. Couldn't pass it up.

That is pretty.

Great finds! Beautiful!
That means those fine rifles and a $50 trigger
A nephew has a special favorite Browning 78 in 7 RM I gave him a few years back.

If he wants to sweeten the trigger, send it to Lee. He told me he has done at least 1500 of these triggers. He has it down to a science.

You lost me after the words .22 Hornet. I would love to have a good SS Hornet.

I’m through there from time to time. I’ll try and remember to look him up.

Nice looking rifles!! Lee Shaver has a lot of neat stuff. Has lots of parts for 1873 Winchesters, too!
