Value of pre - 64 M-70 ??

I bought this 1955 Win. M-70 FTW .358 caliber new in 1960 S.N. 34XXXX , according to Win. this is the 5th rarest caliber, only 5000 were made, metal is 98% NOT IN ORIGINAL STOCK, IIRC i had Lone Wolf of Montana make a lightweight Kevlar & graphite stock sometime in the mid 90s, It has an older (90s) Bushnell 1.5 X 4.5 scope in Millett 2pc mount & rings.

If anyone has an idea of what its worth it would be greatly appreciated.

If i decide to sell it ,i'd throw in the loading dies (RCBS) loaded ammo bullets etc. and my leather horseback rifle scabbard as im to damn old to saddle a horse.

The only advice I would give is if/when you decide to sell, find that original stock. I would think that the collector's value will be enhanced if you have the stock. What would you take for it? That would be the starting price. The scope has no value, the same with the kevlar stock and other accessories.

Per 42nd edition of the Blue Book (several years old), the .358's range from $4350 in 100% new condition, down to $1250 at 60%

The original stock with aluminum buttplate being gone, I'd guess you'd be at the lowish end of that.

I wish I could help but I went to a gun show this weekend and the more rare pre-64 model 70s were priced all over the place I saw a pristine .300 H&H that almost came home with me, before sanity set in, for $1,400 OBO and a .338 for $2,800.

My SIL was interested in the .338 but a quick GB search found one for just over $1,000 so that deflated that ballon swiftly. I think the interest in classic hunting rifles is on a low right now because new hunters either want “cheap but will do” or high end tech and a few thousands buys a LOT of semi-custom technology with accuracy guarantees and such. On top of that the “old timer” generation is in the selling stage. A cycle is due in the future but these are tough times to sell classic walnut and blue steel.

Of course this could all go out the window if you find the one guy that has always wanted a .358 and he’ll just hand over his wallet for one.

Enzo, thanks for the info, According to my info the .338 is the 8th rarest, the 300 H&H fairly common its # 14 ,many years ago I had the .300 & .375 H&H sold them in the 70s. The one i always was the 7x57
