I had not heard about a special powder yet. I wonder if they are packing the case full of RL-26. I was pushing 129 and 140gr bullets in my 6.5-06 to some fairly high velocities with that powder, but the brass didn't really like it and RL-26 is hard to come by unless you are Federal.

2989 FPS for a 175 grain from the 7 BC.

2915 from a 7mag with the same bullet. (Data from Hogdon, which is conservative I’m sure)

Not sure if the barrel length of the mag, assuming 24. The BC said 20”.

So let’s assume we are going to gain 120-ish FPS.
Is it worth a new rifle and cartridge that’s going to be dead k a few years ?

I’m not against innovation, but this one doesn’t really do much.

Per Hodgdon, you can get 2,700 to 2,975 fps out of a .280 Ackley Improved with a 168 gr. bullet and 24" barrel.

And the brass is... brass.

I don't have a niche that it would fill.
It would take a LOT of careful planning to get a 400+ yard shot on game, around these parts. I'm comfortable with a plain jane 30-06 and something like a 150-165gr SST, NBT or TGK to that distance.

I think I will pass on this one. My guess is that it will fizzle out after a few years and "brass" will be hard to come by. I question the long term durability of rifles chambered for this cartridge as well.

I have pushed a few cartridges further than I should have and gotten away with it, but if something does go wrong at 80k PSI it's going to be ugly. I have to back off my .243/90gr CX/H4350 load as it shows pressure signs and Quick load says it around 70k PSI. It does drive that 90gr CX bullet at 3350 fps even though it's below book max (Starline brass but have less capacity than Hornady brass).

I don’t remember anything about being able to reload that cartridge. That could be the kiss of death. Seems like a lot of pressure for not a ton of gain, the 7Rm is close in performance, the short mags had their day. I was next to a guy spotting for him as he shot a cow elk at 802 yards (ranged) it was a one and done deal with a 7wsm. Impressive performance…. In the end, a steel case, high pressure and performance that doesn’t out class its counterparts will be its end

One video I watched touted the fact that you could get the velocity of a 7RCM w/ 24" bbl from a 7BC w/16" bbl.So you have a shorter OAL running a silencer. They backed that claim up by shooting a 24" RCM and a 16" 7BC with similar bullet weights

My concern would be the muzzle pressure being so high as to damage silencers

QL obviously doesn't list the new 7BC, Mine doesn't list the 7RCM either. So I used the Rem 7mmSAUM for a similar case capacity and velocity.
Using the powder that gives the fastest predicted velocity with a 175gr TSX bullet, I found a load with 62017psi of pressure. From a 24" bbl, it's predicted to have a muzzle pressure of 11,034psi of muzzle pressure. Shortening it to the 7BC's 16" bbl, the muzzle pressure jumps to 17,895psi. More than a 50% jump in the pressure going into the silencer. How much bigger would the jump be in an cartridge with an 80,000 psi chamber pressure?

I would be worried about my silencer with those types of pressures

A company (I think RCBS) is supposedly working on dies. I suspect the sizing process will need to be slightly modified from what everyone is used to. That being said, I have heard of people reloading steel case 7.62x39.

Yep.............The suppressor would have to built like a brick s...house to ensure it stays intact in my view.
I dont need a rifle that can reach way out there and kill things.......I just use the rifles I have and stalk in closer so I can head/neck shoot them....

I just don't get it myself but I guess you have to give Federal credit for trying to keep things fresh and new. Just my opinion but I think a cartridge like this just inspires people to shoot at game at unreasonable distances. What is an unreasonable distance someone will ask? Well that's up to the shooter to decide. We have some members here who do some pretty amazing distance work with the .308 Winchester and I envy their ability.

The selling point to this cartridge is the 16" barrel, lighter and shorter. Like the SM and USM craze, they will also add a lot of recoil. I'm just not interested and I doubt the market will support it.
