The "Miracle on the Hudson" occurred.
It's still hard to believe that a commercial jet, with 155 passengers plus the crew on board, crash landed in a frigid river and all of them survived.

A near miracle mix of experience, skill, crew resource management, and some luck/divine intervention. It's still studied today as a gold standard of what to do when everything goes wrong. I bet those 155 people don't think their pilots are overpaid
Jake Skiles, the first officer from the flight, actually very recently retired.
Want to be really impressed? Listen to the ATC recording. "Sully" is ice cold on the radio, and somewhere in the background Skiles is running through checklists and making things happen to free the captain up to make decisions. https://youtu.be/5S5hRRio-E8?si=RYKJE_Ebi0KUlLdu

I was at work at the time it happened and all the pilots I worked with were truly impressed! But Sully used to fly F-4's, soooooo.
