New gun- anyone know anything about FALs?

Grabbed some of the 308 hunting ammo I had laying around, loaded up the FAL with the kiddo, and hit the range today to see if this. Old be made ‘hunting worthy’

First three shots with the ammo I have my DPMS sighted in for pretty much confirmed it.

This simplifies logistics as well. One load for both EBRs.

On a whim, went ahead and tried the federal that I had on hand, and was not as impressed:

And the kiddo loved shooting it as well. Ripped out a couple of mags of surplus FMJ and did pretty good. Now he wants to compare the DPMS and the FAL

I need to get him cranking out reloads if he wants to shoot the expensive stuff!

That would still be minute of whitetail/axis with the Federal ammo when adjusted for zero. How bad does it ding the brass?

That I have no idea. It launched the brass down range for the most part.

My dads launched brass into low earth orbit as well as left some nasty dings. Best I recall it was bad enough I wouldn’t reload it.

That is my understanding about them, always hopeful that there are some that do not do that.
