Sig Cross Trax - .243 Winchester

Post by Zee »

I love my Sig Cross in .308 Win. Nice and compact while being lightweight compared to most of my other rifles. On top of that, it’s very accurate with factory ammunition. Used it to take a 9.5 year old buck this season if you remember.

It’s a great deer/pig rifle.

So, I decided to follow suit and lighten up my yote/pig platform.

Enter the Sig Cross Trax in .243 Winchester. And even lighter version of the Sig Cross by one pound.

She’s in Purgatory now. But, when I’m home……and she’s home…..I’ll swap out the grip, add a lightweight ARCA Rail, and put a thermal on her. Adding the new thermal to the .308 rifle, I’ll have a lightweight, compact night platform for anything I go after at night.
Should be fun.

Chassis guns are purpose built. They are form/function rifles. Not much for looking at. You need a mission or they will meh the purist. Kinda like a Glock.

I’d been eyeballing it online. Walked into my LGS and they had one. Handled it………dammit. I’ll take it.

I handled one at a LGS the other day and liked what I saw. It checked a lot of blocks for sure.

Well it only took you about what, 10 years to convince me about Glocks?

Takes me a bit, but I come around to the light. I’ve been eyeing a bunch of my wood and steel stuff with a rather critical eye lately 🤣🤣🤣

The Sig is chassis-ish. It only works as it works. Which if it works, it works. It’s not swapable.
I’d prefer a regular 700 pattern action in a chassis of my choice for less moneys.
700 pattern, not made by Remington. Once you use a boutique action, you get ruined.

Which the fancy action build wouldn’t be less, but you could easily build it off of a factory action for less.

The Sig is perfect for what I want. It does everything I need in a light, streamlined manner. Most chassis piss me off in some way. The Sig Cross and the Aero Solus tickle my needs and fancy.
I’m pretty critical of chassis.

And yet you don’t gripe about the HORRIBLE poop DESIGN of the AICS chassis grip. 😬

They were ahead of their time. And a breath of fresh air. The original AICS has been surpassed. But, still works. Do I like thumb hole sticks. No.

Not my favorite grip. But still the best production sniper rifle made. Action and barrel wise.

I don’t love or hate the shape. It’s meh.
The fact a $10,000 rifle has a POS clamshell grip that spreads when you twist it is what annoys me. Amazing everything else, and they phoned in the grip.
“But you don’t grip, the grip, if you do you’re doing it wrong!”

Ha! If I wasn’t so vested in .243 Win with a lifetime supply of bullets and brass………maybe. 😎

Yeah- that grip would be the first thing to go. It's just... dumb looking.

But yeah, like CPJ hunting from a tripod has opened a new dimension for me. I will be setting up a rig like that soon.

I know you will enjoy it.
Have you ordered bullets for it yet?
If I remember right, if you took the stock off the overall length is just over 26"...That is kind of cool
