A Project 65 Million Years in the Making (Teaser)
I've talked on the various iterations of the forum for close to a decade about a grail gun of mine, meant to serve as a more practical "in the spirit of" interpretation of a movie gun. Due to other obligations, as well as brand names exchanging hands a few times, that project has always taken a back seat to other ventures. However, recently I've been fortunate enough to be in a place where I could finally make it happen! More to follow, hopefully soon (my FFL runs mainly "by appointment" hours and my schedule is fairly erratic), but until then enjoy this teaser...

Nice. I’ve grown sick of popcorn waiting for you.

its getting harder to find stainless finish scopes. You have one, or are you painting one?

TBD. I may just deviate from the theme on that. I have a VX-2 2-7 earmarked for it, but it's matte black. Artistic license and all.

I pulled the Leupold VX-2 2-7x33 w/ Custom Shop German #4 reticle earmarked for this project out of storage. For now I don't think I will be painting it, but we shall see in the long run.

That scope and THAT reticule are the perfect match for this gun! I
the German #4 on a gun meant for short to medium range. It is FAST and yet accurate

I see PSA has a stainless 1895, large ring lever in .45-70 for $1299 today.
Prolly a good deal if you're in the market.

MSRP is $1600 IIRC, so that is a competitive price for sure.

Got the product in hand but I've already ran into an issue: the rings I bought are too low. More to follow...

I got the correct height rings in and was able to get the scope mounted up today. With the high rings, the scope just barely clears the peep sight. I will probably end up with some kind of (not correct to film) leather cheek piece on it.
It will probably be next week at least before I can swing a range report, but I'm getting excited!

Didn't the one in the movie have slanted rings? I remember thinking they looked crookedshotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 2:58 am I got the correct height rings in and was able to get the scope mounted up today. Yep, I'm taking some creative liberties on the project to make it more useful. It's the thought that counts... I'm pretty sure the movie prop gun also had a scout scope mounted improperly.

Wow did anyone ever tell you that you look an awful lot like Chris Pratt? Nice rifle by the way!
