Rosson 16 Bore Shotgun.

Post by T'owd Mon »

This is one that picked up recently; as I collect guns made locally in Derbyshire I managed to find this 16 bore double non-ejector by Charles Rosson of Derby. The address is 4, Market Head but later guns were marked 12, Market Place. He actually never moved from the original address but the streets were re-numbered. Rosson's closed down in the early 1950's. Serial number dating is made easy as the first two digits are the year of them being produced this one indicating being made in 1936. It still bears most of the original finish and is in excellent condition. The legend on the top rib still shows the faint scribe marks used by the engraver. I have other guns by this Maker but am yet to find a good example with the later address.

I have others by this Maker and will post another shortly that is a slight bit more engraved. I'm still trying to add a hammer gun by Rosson to my collection if I can find a good example plus one from the later address. Seeking them out is what makes gun collecting enjoyable. He was previously in business with a Robert Dobson and some earlier guns were marked Dobson & Rosson. I know where there is an example but can't get the owner to part with it also seeking out an earlier Robert Dobson.
