Picked up 6 more points
I am 28/30 right now, 2 away from distinguished. Shot real well on my hind feet then tried hard to cuff it up with two uncalled 7's at 600

Re: Picked up 6 more points
I see that you are shooting a AR-15. Mind sharing how your set up?

Its service rifle, so its like NASCAR with restrictor plates for AR's but you can make your own fuel.
Mine is a Rock River Arms National Match A4. Which is a real good barrel of HBAR contour that is free floated 1:8 twist. A2 stock, grip, hand guard. Could you build cheaper? Probably. Their lowers are in the higher end group and they are Wilson barrels IIRC. So you wont build the same quality a lot cheaper. That doesnt mean you NEED to start there, but in this case, buy once will save you money.
Optics can be no more that 4.5x I am currently running a Night force service rifle scope. Started with a Leupold Mark AR, went to a Vortex then broke down and got the NF. As each kid got old enough it gave Dad a chance to upgrade. Leupold makes a good service rifle scope for a bit less. March is between them with Trijicon (sp). But you can start in the 500 dollar range with Hilux or white oak until your shooting justifies an upgrade.
Triggers must be 4.5lb and are weighed. I have a Geissele NM trigger, set to a bit over 5. I dont want a little oil to DQ my rifle. The RRA NM was fine, but I tried the Geissele and liked it. Put the RRA trigger on the rifle I use for Marine corps league matches.
Doc Jones sling. He sells them out of his car at matches. Best there is. I started with a web sling for about 10 bucks, went to a leather Turner, then a Turner biothane which I liked a lot, then tried one of the Docs which are not expensive, just hard to come by. To start, use a GI Garand sling. I know guys that are better than me that still use them. The Turners biothane are 60 bucks??? A pain to get off which also meant they dont slide.
Lead weight in the butt to make it heavier, hits about 17lb total with a single load device in it. Users choice.
Brass deflector (brassdeflectors.com) super simple. They fall of once a season so a tube of Gorilla glue gel is in the kit.
You can mount a adjustable stock to them, but I like to keep it simple and I am not small so I dwarf the rifle as it is.
Search CMP rulebook ..... https://thecmp.org/competitions/cmp-com ... rulebooks/ There ya go. page 40 in the highpower book Currently I do highpower service rifle. Once I hit distinguished, I am going to add long range.

Thank You
I often wonder how tricked out the rifles used are.
Impressive shooting for sure

Re: Picked up 6 more points
Not so much tricked out, but higher end stuff that is recognizable as a service rifle.
A 2000.00 4.5x scope helps and the glass is better, but I was hitting master class scores (not consistently ) with the Vortex Viper PST. The NF really helped the ability to make better wind corrections at 600. Although it is still up to the user to screw it up,,,,, EG 2 sevens.
You can have a better trigger that breaks at less than service rifle std of 9lb of Capt Crunch. Still has to be above the minimum.
Best thing you can buy is ammo. Lots of ammo and shoot it in matches. And a cart. Having you crap ready to go at hand takes a huge burden off your brain
If you go match rifle, then you start seeing tricked out stuff.

Good showing! I've really enjoyed following your development in the Hi Power game.

Amazingly it has excelled immediately after retirement. Time to load, time to practice, and since I am not working every forth weekend, time to go to matches.shotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 16, 2025 5:13 pm Good showing! I've really enjoyed following your development in the Hi Power game.

My interest in pursuing the Hi Power game is precluded by my wildly inconsistent work schedule. Until it's more predictable, local USPSA style matches scratch the competitive itch.

Ah yes. . .the time. I largely got out of the Highpower game because it was becoming a part time job. That, plus that fact that I WORK in a structured range setting where I give the commands - - the last thing I wanted to do on my day off was run courses of fire to someone else's. Any more, I just want to plink and hunt, while singing "All by myself".
QUESTION: In deference to the fact that the game is almost entirely played by old farts and isn't attracting much young blood, I know that the rules for general Highpower changed to allow you to start the rapid fire stages in position. At the time of that rule change, they still required you to start standing for leg matches. What's the current state of that?
