"Something different is done"
Here's what I came up with for that bolt action AR upper
.223 Wylde
20" 1/8 Twist, Fluted medium taper...10 lbs...SIG SPR 4-16x44 mm with 30mm tube...Rise Armament 3.5 lb trigger...Luth PR stock

Re: "Something different is done"
I have debated a bolt action upper for a while. Bolt handle being so far forward would be odd though.

Remind me the chambering?

I was thinking about the same thing but when I got it Shouldered the bolt handle was right where it was supposed to be...

I just ordered some 62grain OTMs and some 77 grain OTMs....I'm really hoping it likes the heavier stuff

I really loved that cartridge. But, it’s pretty niche.

Re: "Something different is done"
I have dies, a bunch of 6mm bullets that I wont use for hunting, and plenty of once fired .223 brass. I also have a contoured 6mm barrel blank and a CZ 527 in .223. I just need to decide if thats the route I want to go.

Yes. Yes it is.

1:8, should run 75 Hornadys, 77 (Sierra/Nosler) 80.5 Bergers, 80 Sierras, 80.5 Bergers.... might not run 90s, but in my experience the 62s will shoot well at least at short range

Sweet looking rig!
Re: "Something different is done"
Based on what I can find online, 1:8 may or may not be good with something like the 90gr SMK. The Hornady 70gr CX calls for a minimum of 1:7 though. Then again the CX line tends to be some fairly long for caliber/weight bullets.

Having a brain fart but there were hornadys that were coming apart before they made 300 yards out of service rifles. The vast majority are wylde which are in the 1:8-7-7.5 range. They would vaporize on the way there. Cannot for the life of me remember which ones they were or if Hornady got it fixed. Might want to search on them before you buy bulk.

Thanks...right now I'm buying several different bullet weights in 20 round boxes until I get bit figured out...Varmintmist wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 6:31 pm Having a brain fart but there were hornadys that were coming apart before they made 300 yards out of service rifles. It's like a Mosin-Nagant sniper rifle on which they fixed the stock's comb height. . .and left everything else alone.
