Hunting Pictures Thread
Re: Hunting Pictures Thread
That’s the basic location where he was, just further Past the trees.
Did I get a tasty deer that will make jerky? Yes. But I don’t like making lucky shots. Missing tree limbs I didn’t see is about as lucky as I like. Sleeping all afternoon and sitting a few minutes is luck that I’ll accept. Misreading yardage and somehow hitting one is slob hunter behavior. Not as bad a doing that and losing one due to a poop shot, but still garbage. Not a fan.
The positive of the situation is that I was able to figure what I did wrong, and will rectify the situation.

That’s a nice buck. We make mistakes. We learn. This one worked out even though it shouldn’t have. Keep learning.

Got it done with the Savage 99 in .243 Winchester and 85gr SGK-HP! It rained on me for about an hour. I covered the rifle with my rain jacket to keep it dry and let myself get soaked. Then, the rain passed and the deer started moving. Watched this solo doe cross the pasture and decided she was the one since she wasn’t with a fawn.
About 115ish yard quartering away shot through the aortic arch and she ran about 50ish yrds. Bullet lodged in the off side shoulder.

Nice work!! Looks like the savage is just that, Savage!
Re: Hunting Pictures Thread
Still indebted to you. That was a long journey to fruition. Been wanting one a very, very long time.

Well, they can’t be shot to Hell before you eat them. Just saying.

That’s fair. Really fair. Beyond fair. More fair than anyone has ever been fair before.

Opening afternoon. Currently 78° and the hogs have been through recently, from the rooted up ground right in front of the shooting house

2 misfires today, J frame locked up on the .38 birdshot cartridge and would not cycle while 4 suicidal grouse stood and looked at me and my .308 AR just misfired on a light to no primer strike when I had a beaver sitting on the beaver pond bank, I think I have a broken firing pin, at least it was not a Thirty Pointer

Re: Hunting Pictures Thread
Well, my hunting report is simple...
"Saw nothing, shot same"
Wife's is more interesting...
2 does came out on the field, only 1 left under its own power.
A 125gr 30cal Midway "second" (appears to be an AAC sabre blade blacktip, aka hornady 125 SST with a black tip) through her neck at ~50 yards dropped her. Notice that I'm wearing shorts?
Edited to add: primed LC18 brass, 40gr H4895, her ruger 77mkii compact and my form 1, direct thread, 30 cal can.
