Almost resisted.....New 22

Post by JunkCollector »

The temptation to at least try a lever action 22 was just too much though.

I'm not so sure.
I'll enjoy trying it immensely initially for sure
I'm definitely a bolt 22 guy mainly.
I've kept a few semi- auto 22's but only because they were too accurate to let go.

If it's really accurate yeah I'd have a hard time not keeping it.
If not.....free ride....lol

I do want to see just how quick it is.
Wicked short stroke on these

That is a cool find and unique rifle! Another great opportunity to learn something. Thank you. Since it is a Marlin 57 it should shoot lights out.

Wow those command a good price on GB.

Someone or ones have kept this is near new condition.
If really a grail for him you may have to eliminate Sako if it doesn't suit me.

He already called dibbs.
The condition and price warranted trying it.

That’s some nice grain on that stock, is it tapped for a scope?

To me it's just pretty straight grained walnut.

Yup. . .big step up from the reminder I've got. Our local Sears building has been standing empty in its vast parking for 20 years or more while the mothership and/or city come to terms with what's going to happen to it. Condemned for asbestos or mold. Maybe moldy asbestos. I like your .22 better.
WWJMBD?

I believe we should stand on Ceremony. . . while our friends handcuff the sanctimonious little prick and take him away.

Levermatic!! Nice stock! Very short lever throw. Basically a lever action model 60. Came out almost a year before the model 60. Typical Marlin, mine shoots lights out!! You will enjoy it. Next up a model 39!! :)

I like lever action .22s. The first gun I ever bought was a Winchester 250, back in 1964. I still have it. And it's in good shape. When I bought it, new, it had a 1/2" scope on it. I'm thinking about replacing that scope so it looks like it did when I bought it.

Gave it a quick try/function test today.

I generally won't do a thing with a used gun until after giving it a dirty test. It's my feeling that starting with a dirty test helps show any current problems/issues that may need to be addressed or simply rectified by cleaning.

The results were
It Feeds great
The Firing pin strikes were nice and deep.
The Ejection was mixed.
Where some fired cases wanted to stay in the chamber.
Those that didn't got tossed well.

Light pressure on the right hand side ejector would remove the spent case easily..
It has two one on each side of bolt.

With the grunginess of the ammo I was using.
The dirtiness of the bore/chamber.
I Gave IT a good cleaning after the test and yeah it's been some time since someone ran a brush and patches through it.

Initial impression would be it should run l Iike a Singer now.
For you young uns......that's a sewing machine.
