Not quite. Simply don't CARE enough about new cartridge introductions to give it any thought whether it's real or not.

I may very well need to acquire a previously sporterized 6.5 Arisaka and put some accurizing work into it specifically for the purpose of tweaking the noses of Creedmoor owners about their "latest and greatest".

6.5x55 is more than capable of running at or better than 6.5 CM velocities if you load to CIP standards instead of SAAMI standards. It fits just fine in a M96 or M98 magazine....

I have not really been terribly impressed with the CM offerings so far. Their velocity advantage seems to be mostly tied to higher operating pressures and they dont seem to do anything that wasnt already covered by an existing cartridge. The only good thing I see from them is that it tends to bring out new bullet offerings or even just availability for whatever diameter the newest CM is.

I have had several 6.5 CM rifles and have not been terribly impressed. One is now a straight walled cartridge rifle, one is a .243, and I still have one that may eventually become something else as it is too inconsistent for use on game.

I was wrong, I did think of another good thing, kinda. I use CM basic brass for one of my straight walled cartridges. It is easier than making .308 or .30-06 brass work, but availability is very spotty.

The Arisaka doesn't USE pesky magazines. #junior.

The 6.5 CM hit me about like the comped .38 Supers in skeleton speed holsters hit me: It's a gamer round designed for a gamer purpose - the game being the National Match Service Rifle course of fire. The designers wanted a wind advantage in the 600 yard slowfire stage, and a recoil advantage in the 200 yard sitting and 300 yard prone rapid fire stages. It didn't really have an intended purpose or significant advantage outside of that - yet it got a STUPID amount of sales hype for things far outside of that. It ain't a world-beating thousand yard round, no matter how much Madison Avenue pixie dust one wants to sprinkle on it.

Anyway you wouldn’t take a monster truck to a NASCAR race, a chassis rifle to an M1 competition, or full power ammo to a cowboy dress up match.

Specific tools, specific tasks. It’s not ONLY about the cartridge. One needs to consider the platform.

How so? I certainly know nothing about the night hunting game but it seems to me that one could put a night vision scope on grandpa's 30-06 and set it on a tripod with a clamp mount and fire away. What am I missing?

It's not a "cool kid's" toy, doesn't have an ARCA rail, yada, yada yada

Clamps are so 5 yrs ago. ARCA is the current bomb. SO much better than clamps. More sturdy and maneuverable.
Night hunting is a moving game if you want to be highly successful. Yes, one could sit and wait. But, that’s not fun or productive. Beable to lock your gun in quickly and shoot steady or disconnect and move. Or pick up the tripod and rifle connected and not worry about your rifle falling out or twisting.
Yes, chassis are amazing platforms that cross the usage barrier better than traditional stocks.

Ok, trying to understand but it seems the only true advantage then is the ability to leave your rifle locked into the tripod via the ARCA for transport.
With the clamp mount the rifle and tripod would need to be seperated to change location.
