Savage Revel
Savage Revel
Does anyone have any experience with this gun?
It’s a rimfire lever action made in their Canadian factory. Seems like the reviews are good.
I can get one at the local Walmart $212. Academy wants over $400. I’m very tempted.

Re: Savage Revel
Just took a look at their website. For just over $200 you could do a lot worse than a tube fed classic looking lever rimfire. Not a bad looking gun and it's already D&Td for scope mounts or a rail. Basically what I call a no-brainer decision. Hell go get it and write up a range report. I think a few guys here might be tempted if you give it the seal of approval. MSRP is between $499-659 depending on model and chambering so $212 is a great deal.

I think its time for some early Christmas shopping!
Re: Savage Revel
No one was at the gun counter today. I’ll try again tomorrow

A few months back I was at the gun counter at the local Walmart with another gentleman waiting to get someone's attention. After about 10 mins the guy goes behind the counter, picks up the department phone and starts dialing random 4 digit combinations of numbers and hanging up repeatedly. within a minute someone showed up with a terrified look on their face and just looked at us. He looks at me and says "Works every time!". I have not had an opportunity to try this out but someday I will
Re: Savage Revel
Don’t believe I’ll try that trick

The story of why Wal Mart doesn't sell guns in California anymore is that some random staff member was asked to ring up a rifle that was on sale.
The employee scanned the rifle's bar code, collected the money, and handed the rifle over. . .no ID check, no DROS, no 10-day wait, nada. Almost as if they were in America.

Re: Savage Revel
No urban legend. I was standing next to the guy when he did it. Maybe he heard about it from someone else but he did it and it freaking worked. Next time they don’t pay attention to me I’ll be doing the same!!!
Re: Savage Revel
I believe the possible urban legend is the cashier selling the gun with no paperwork

I was told that a sporting's good manager was taking guns home and selling them from his house. I have heard both those stories.

Back when I was in college a rumor was going around that a guy in our ROTC class got the local Wal-Mart to sell him 9mm ammo while he was under 21 by claiming it was going to be used in a carbine. I definitely cannot attribute to that story being true or not, but based on some other stories I've heard if it were to be true (which I definitely cannot confirm in any way) I would not be surprised.Bigslug wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 2:31 am

Too bad we'll never know, since I was not involved nor did I personally witness the event in question. I prefer to let some rumors live.

I have had that happen and I'm well past 21, don't recall if it was walmart of Blains Farm and Fleet, may have been both. I was buying .22 LR and they had to document which if was for, pistol or rifle. I thought that was very odd.shotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2026 3:19 amBack when I was in college a rumor was going around that a guy in our ROTC class got the local Wal-Mart to sell him 9mm ammo while he was under 21 by claiming it was going to be used in a carbine. Haven’t had a chance to go back. Life keeps getting in the way
Re: Savage Revel
The shop has a fancy version of it. It feels like an inexpensive gun, like a heritage revolver feels. I’d buy a Henry 22 before one of those savages…

Savage does make a “deluxe” version. IIRC it has cutouts on the forearm and stock

When I was about… 20 or 21… I put a rifle on layaway at the Walmart in my hometown. When I got the cash together, I went back to the customer service department, paid in full, and the dude just handed me the rifle box and said “thanks!” I walked out of the store and by the time i got home there were 3 messages on the answering machine from a panicked sporting goods manager asking me to come back and fill out the 4473.Bigslug wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 2:31 amIt may be urban legend, but is probably fact. . .Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2026 1:57 pm A few months back I was at the gun counter at the local Walmart with another gentleman waiting to get someone's attention. I got a panicked call from BPS Manager about my 3.5” S&W N Frame .357 mag. Said her employee failed to write a model number on the form. Had to spend some time educating her on pre-model # Smith & Wesson revolvers.bullsi1911 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 12:12 amWhen I was about… 20 or 21… I put a rifle on layaway at the Walmart in my hometown. Re: Savage Revel
Went to Walmart today after school to buy it. Found out all guns sales require a sporting goods person AND a salaried manager. The mgr left at 3.
Mgr is supposed to be there until 5 tomorrow. Hopefully my schedule will allow me to go tomorrow

Re: Savage Revel
One thing I noticed on the gun: it doesn’t have a front barrel band like a Henry does. Reckon that’s anything to consider?
