BPS gift cards are finally put to use…

Post by Wambli Ska »

Had 3 of them in my wallet forever but it’s been a while since I did any shopping trying to recover from a very expensive move. Today I was bored so I went for a drive to BPS thinking at least I can get some exercise walking that huge store.

Well I found a reason to use the cards. A pretty little Marlin 995 .22lr semi auto. Basically a model 60 but magazine fed. It so cute, looks like a mini Camp Carbine 😎

Anyway 100% perfect blue, bore is pristine, tight action, some very light wear on the edges of the receiver, stock is a little dinged but PRETTY grain so it’s getting a full refinish, AND it’s threaded!!! So I’ll be hanging a little can off it.

Quick pics just to show it. I’ll take a nice picture when I’m done refinishing it.

Nice! Don’t think I’ve ever seen that model before. It does bear a resemblance to the camp Carbine.

Thanks! Literally a lucky find, I was expecting to find nothing, and since I just used up gift cards, I consider it a free gun

Nice find, and a micro groove at that. 22's will never not get me excited. I think they bring out the "kid discovering firearms" in us.

Yes! I love all guns, but finding a cool older .22 puts a smile on my face like nothing else 😁

I have an affinity towards older MilSurp and early centerfire hunting rifles. Personally.
Never really cared about older Rimfire or western options. Though I do have some of both.

Not a dig against you. Just an interesting difference in preferences.

Bass Pro gift cards. . .HA!

The first couple years after I rebooted the deer hunting, BPS got a lot of my money. The next couple years, they still got a good bit of my money. Now, I don't even need socks. I spent my last BPS Christmas card on chew toys for my parents three dogs.

The Cabelas in Grand Junction at least used to have a truly impressive used/consignment rack before the merger. Couldn't tell you what it's into now. The CA branch nearest me doesn't play the used game at all.

I probably SHOULD bring home a Marlin semi auto .22 someday just to fill the niche... Seems like there should be a Model 60 in the pile.
WWJMBD?

I believe we should stand on Ceremony. . . while our friends handcuff the sanctimonious little prick and take him away.

I walk around BPS just to get exercise, there is literally nothing I need from them except maybe an expedient purchase of a shell holder or some bullets on sale. They also have a pretty good supply of powders and primers nowadays and even though their prices are a little on the high side they price match so for expedient purchases of "I need it now" they are Ok. It's also a store that has enough stuff to keep my wife entertained so I don't mind spending time in there.

As far as guns go, the local one does a lot of used gun business so again while their prices tend to be higher on most stuff every once in a while I find some well priced little jewels and those promptly come home.

I've known you long enough to know that. We all have our preferences and it is cool to see as the years go by how folks migrate in different directions. I've been finding a lot of joy nowadays in just going out with the wife and kids and finding a spot out in nowhere land with a suitable backstop and just whittling time away shooting at targets of opportunity and giggling the hours away. .22s are great for that, especially the older iron sighted guns and they all love the "cowboy" guns. And this is my shooting about 90% of the time nowadays. I have a few more hunting trips left in my life but the thought of dragging an elk up one side of a mountain makes my chest hurt. I'll wait until I get a horse again under me and re-asses, wife and I are going shopping soon.

but, I can't remember the last time I went to a formal range with a real bench and worked on shooting rifles and tuning loads so I pass right by all those racks at the stores, and at 68 now my ongoing SD training sessions are more maintenance than anything else and I have enough guns for both purposes.

Besides I have a lot of work to get done on my gay Jeep now... Gotta get some more ducks.

I respect that and envy you to a point. Except the gay Jeep part. That’s just, gay.
But, unfortunately, most of my firearm stuff is purpose driven. Hunting, hunters, work, results. It’s ultimately tiring and takes the fun out of just shooting, eventually.
I don’t remember the last time I just shot for fun. And I need to get back to that. Because I’m honestly just……..tired. Tired on needing results. Tired of having to perform.
I’m hoping that the sharps I got from Jay and a new .22lr rifle I just ordered will help me realize the fun of shooting and not have to perform and focus on……..results.

I seriously need some just plain fun. It’s been awhile.

I’ve been purposely driven for 30 years. Got 4 more to go. I’m trying to keep the torch lit. And then maybe have to keep it lit for a little longer if I decide to contract.

I have a model 60, and used to have the “papoose” takedown that used the same mags that you have. I wish I hadn’t sold it now.

Gift cards don’t count towards the opposite of thinning the heard. No gain, no loss. Total wash.

Wish I hadn’t of sold my model 60. Aside from accessories, it’s 20 times the rifle a 10-22 is.

Well next time you find yourself in my neck of the woods call me and I’ll take you out for lunch at a really cool old Saloon and then we’ll go out and run an awesome trail into Mt Charleston and I’ll bring a couple of fun guns and you can just take a deep breath and relax at my place with a glass of world class booze of your choice. Not a care in the world and no expectations at all.

I always wanted one of those Papoose rifles. The idea of a take-down is really appealing. BPS had a good deal on what looked to be a brand new US Survival (Henry) AR-7 in contention when I bought this but the threaded barrel and pretty wood won.

I agree, gift cards are found money 😁

I also agree with the Model 60 statement and this is from a guy with too many 10-22s.
