Shooting at the WHCD

Post by GrapeApe »

The White House Correspondents Dinner was cancelled after someone opened fire. The Trumps hadn't entered the dining area yet.

I just read online that the “Leeeroy Jenkins!” assassin was toting a Mavrick 88 and an Armscor/RIA .38. Obviously a well funded operation

So they showed the whole set of weapons. Extra rounds attached to the “Tactical” Maverick with Velcro, a bunch of cheap gun show Chinese “throwing” knives and an RIA 1911 with two extra mags. So, that’s what he was planning on taking a large contingent of SS and other LE Personal with.

Then again the USSS send 5 rounds his way and connected zero times sooooo…

Shouldn’t have even got to the checkpoint. You’ve got the leader of the free world and his successors IN THE SAME ROOM and some limp wristed douchebag gets through? Had it been a high speed low drag operator type, or an orchestrated attack with multiple people, it would have been a bad deal.

Not saying it was a planned right wing conspiracy, and not saying they allowed it to happen. I’m just having a hard time believing the security was that lax, especially in light of the two previous assassination attempts.

When you do the same thing day after day, you have to fight complacency.
I can say that me and my guys weren’t there. So, you had the run of the mill jack wagons there who earn a paycheck. Complacent.

Wasn't there, ut it seems those being protected didn't hear the gun shots, so they either have great soundproofing or the idiot didn't even get close

Way back in the day there was a video of prisoners doing “exercises” in prep for a running attack on a guard. So our firearms team being what they were rigged up an automatic target return to simulate the speed of someone running at you with a weapon. That poop flat rattles some of our guys. The team saw that and the whole department got an extra week of firearms training. Hitting a target coming at you out of a holster is a challenge, but not insurmountable.

News has been replaying the video of the guy running the checkpoint. Yeah, he's fast. But what I keep noticing is that as he's running, it seems like only 1 person is looking in the direction people should be coming from, the rest are occupied with tasks or talking. Once he's through, the other 5 or 6 people who weren't paying attention but were armed had their guns out, and another 4 or so are getting out of the way.
Looks like Zee's statement about complacency has some truth.

I think complacency has to be built into the defense mechanism, at least to a degree. You can't be razor sharp, all the time, day after day, when NOTHING happens, and all the sheep around you really are sheep. A thin perimeter tends to assume that perimeter is going to be airtight, and it won't be if it's made out of bored humans.

World War 1 had a lot of bored humans, but the perimeters were practically impenetrable because they had a lot of depth to them. If you have one sleepy slap-**** watching a stretch of barbed wire, the enemy will eventually sneak through. If you have ten slap-dicks watching the same stretch of wire, and have another ten slap-dicks randomly bombarding it with artillery, the enemy will have to get MUCH more creative.

It's not practical to weed out slap-dickery in such settings - - it needs to be integrated.

That is 100% complete bullcrap.

Complacent and guarding the most powerful people in the WORLD don’t go together in the same sentence, let alone the same dictionary. There’s zero room for complacency at the top level of high speed low drag operator types.

We aren’t talking about the lardass cops that the only thing they can outrun is a donut. Secret Service. Guarding the POTUS.
