New Rifle build has started

Post by 12th Man »

I have a local builder building me a semi-custom 25CM on a left-handed Tikka action. He fitted the barrel today. This is the entire build

Action - Left-handed SS Tikka Action
Trigger - stock for now will be set to 2 lb crisp
Bottom metal is aftermarket metal Tikka CTR, not the factory plastic bottom metal
New SS swept bolt handle with carbon fiber bolt knob, not the factory bolt knob pictured
After market SS Bolt Shroud
Barrel - 22" SS Krieger 1:75 twist with sprial hex flutes which is wicked cool looking if you ask me
Bolt will be fluted in a smaller spiral hex pattern
Barreled action color Cerakote Sniper Green
Stock - Iota LH Tikka EKO Textured finish in green olive color pattern. Iota is the stock maker for Horizon rifles
Flush cups added to the stock
Scope - GPO Centuri 3-18X44mm SFP MOAi reticle - German Precision Optics former CEO of Zeiss optics started GPO Phenomenal glass and tracking
Scope rings - Area 419 Hunter rings
Suppressor - Omega 300 DT

My gunsmith will do load development using the Hornady 128 gr ELD-X bullet if they shoot. I don't see a reason why they won't shoot but who knows. If not he'll try the Berger 135gr Hybrid or 133 gr Elite hunter bullets. He’ll dope everything to his 800-yard range at 100 yard increments to my scopes tracking.

Rifle should be done and ready to pick up end of next month! Whata think!

I dig it all, save for the barrel. Just a bit too much for me. I do like that stock, a lot.
Is he gonna be able to put the bolt handle on the correct side?

The scope is a GPO (German Percision Optics) 3-18X44mm Centuri. GPO was founded by the former Zeiss Optics CEO. It has Phenomenal glass and tracking. I put it side by side against my Leupold VX-6 3-18X44mm. We could not see any differences. The GPO is less than half the price of the Leupold VX-6. I have the same GPO on my custom 300 WSM. It's just an outstanding scope for the money.

That is a really cool rig, what's the weight? What is the purpose for this gun? Deer and pig or paper?

Not sure of the weight yet. When it's all put together my smith will weigh it for me. I'll use this rifle for hunting but it will have to share time with some of my other rifles :) It will also be used for long range shooting up to 1200 yards. Too old to compete, just like heading to the range every two weeks. Gave my one year notice at work for retirement. I also ask if there were layoffs, put my name down as I'm ready to go. I'll take the six month serverance package. Once retired, I'll be shooting weekly most weeks. Getting ready to build my almost 500 yard range at the ranch. That's the max I can stretch it safely. Should be done in a week or so.

I hadn't heard of GPO, that is a nice scope with a lot of good features.

It's a great scope especially for the money. My single biggest issue is setting the zero stop. It works, just not a clean solution. Once set you're good to go. At least they put a video out on how to set it.

Looks like a well thought out rig.
I like the barrel too.
The scope is new to me also but l Iooked them up and they run in very good company.

I'm very interested in those stocks for the money. Curious to hear what you think of yours.

Also, GPO has been getting a lot of attention in the binocular world lately. Solid choice from what I can tell.

I have the same stock on my other custom Tikka. I flat out love it. The first one I bought was $799.00 A month later they lowered the price to $499.00.

Looks like they might be just the ticket to restock my 6.5 CM CTR.
