It is Tax free weekend here.

I took a quick look at it yesterday
It was priced at 300
He said he could give me a good deal on it.
I didn't ask what that was....today I did.
225 OTD.

The bores are great.
Lockup superb
Outside of barrels.....oil would have helped.
Stock decent walnut that may get worked over.

I don't think it saw much real use with the case colores still being so intact.
Right to the range it went
Barrel one....check
Blew the can 20 more yards straight downrange.

Barrel two....check.....poor can got really religious

Is it crazy to buy ?
or is it crazy not to buy ?
I do wonder at times.

No, it ain’t. If it was perfect, it would have beat the 12 and become the ubiquitous gauge. But it didn’t. Therefore it’s harder to find, and more expensive to shoot.

No Brainer, evan as much of a tightwad as I am at 225 that would have come home. I've got the same gun in my safe but only the left barrel will fire.
Not brave enough to take it apart.

New production ammo is crazy.
Even 12 or 20 gauge
410 stuff is like a buck a pop.....hate that

The ammo I have covered just years of picking it up cheaper than 12 when someone got sick of having it around.
Growing up we never had stashes of ammo.

Take it apart....should be easy and phone pictures will at worst save you....grab Andy for assistance even.

Assumed it was hammer or sear as it won't lock back. Figured out how to replace the sear but that didn't solve the problem so likely the hammer.
Reading on hammer replacement suggest it can be a chore without proper tools to hold bits under spring tension in line to reassemble. Not to mention finding a hammer has been problematic. I see 12 ga parts regularly but can't find any reference to say they are interchangeable with 16ga

For that money I would have been all over it! I think my dad has that gun too, and the same pile of random old 16 gauge ammo! Next time we need to look at that SXS Tom…..

If you need 16ga ammo just pickup a used reloader and a set of 16Ga dies. The primer and deprimer are the same for 20. - 10.
16ga may be coming back as Browning has a 16ga auto now.

I stupidly sold my 16 guage 311 before moving to P, it was my phesant/dove gun. For $300 I woudl have jumped on that!

"Working man's gun". . .at least you don't have to work to find the 16 gauge ammo in this case. Can't argue a 311 . . . or much else in the Stevens line. Well done!

Barq's root beer cans refilled with water were one of my favorite .22 targets as a kid. More in my head than anything else, but the silver inside and outside just seemed flashier when they blew up.
